    olly300 - I read it, totally agree.
I am far from being an experienced gardener but my dear god, this last lot is dreadful. I welcome any tips no matter how basic they are but really, it's a joke now. I don't like any of those presenters, I would have liked Christine Walkden as the main presenter. If you've seen Christine's garden, I think you would see where I am coming from.

More of enthusiasm, down to earth and common sense is definitely needed. And I am sorry but how many people are bothered more about the look of the garden rather than wanting to produce their own? I certainly want to grow good stuff and not to spend a small fortune on getting started.

P.S. Sorry if I offended anyone - I don't want to offend anyone, I am just voicing my opinion and expressing my feelings. I am greatly disappointed with the new lot (more of a fashion statement and less of a good old gardening.)

I just get the feeling the BBC are building an almighty garden center to rake the money in from visitors. I won't be visiting, I prefer my own little garden. I'm only an amateur, but my little plot looks better than their field:o And, hasn't the weather been splendid this week:T

Can't bear Toby, and it's a complete travesty and a gigantic heap of misogynistic compost that he was promoted over Carol Klein (he's an ex-student of hers!). She should be the main presenter and get rid of him altogether - 4 is too many. Joe's actually quite good if he's kept on designing and allotments. Alys seems to be settling in now - her greenhouse bit tonight was quite good.

I watched again last night and somehow the presentations seem to be horribly contrived, especially the end bit about "What's cool.". . I don't like the new Green Acre site. There are very few gardeners who have that amount of space and whilst I realise they need a set which can demonstrate all kinds of planting and techniques, there's still something of a 'gardening in fantasy land' about it' which I suspect the newby gardener with difficult conditions will find very dispiriting. It makes gardening appear all too easy, which it isn't. And the camera men are not too hot about zooming in on demonstration techniques either - we seem to get more of the presenter's body than a focus on the splitting, sowing, etc. And could somebody please tell Alys not to wear that wretched snakestail scarf around her head again. I found it totally distracting. I've watched this programme for many years now and rate it very poorly compared with earlier times. A shame, because it's always been one of my Friday night's 'Must Watch'.
  • does anyone know if gardeners world is repeated b4 nxt friday??

I watched this Friday's show, seemed to me they actually started giving out some useful tips, or did I dream it?

Perhaps the negative feedback from all over is starting to sink in, one can only hope

I've given up watching it and I'm a newbie gardener. I find their presentation skills a little too Blue Peter-esque and not really any helpful tips that I didn't already pick up while trawling the internet for help. :)
  • Sorry, I've just flicked through this thread v briefly but I think the main issue is how broad a group we gardeners/ allotmenteers actually are. This is fantastic, really, that the love of gardening can span all ages/backgrounds/incomes etc. My point is that the BBC are trying to put a gallon into a pint pot. There is no way they will be able to produce one gardening programme that will keep everyone happy.

Can I make a personal plea, though. I used to post regularly on the BBC gardening boards but they became so rude and downright nasty about the people presenting that I had to stop. I think it's fair enough to criticise lack of knowledge or poor presenting style as that is what they are paid to do well (though how can they really please everyone?). I think that derogatory comments about personal appearance and dress sense say more about the writer than their target. Just because 'society' is racing down the youth and beauty route, do we have to join in?

Personally, I'm 44. I have gardened almost compulsively for 20 odd years. I didn't get on with Geoff (though my Dad did). I really enjoyed Alan but wasn't as keen on Monty. I can see the issues with the new programme but I have actually picked up quite a few new tips. Joe inspired me to get an allotment last year and I'm soo glad I did. I think the new series is an improvement on the last.
