Mountain rescue volunteers get discount in loads of outdoor-type shops. Not sure which ones, and not sure if its a national thing, but my dad gets discount in the Cardiff area (including Tog, Helly Hansen and the other one in McArthur Glen, Bridgend).
I've yet to find a pharmacy-related discount. Everyone thinks we're loaded (ha!) and not as important to patients as doctors and nurses etc (sorry, bit bitter and twisted).0 -
Again for Police Officers... I live in Northampton and know of the following:
Dominos - 50% off when you collect
McDonalds - some discount when in uniform - but not sure what it is!
Tesco - can use their staff canteen and get meals for 'pence'
Some BP garages give you coffee when on nights
Milletts and Blacks Outdoor Shops - 10% on production of ID
White & Bishop (local Outdoor Shop ) - 10%
Via Staffs Federation Office, discounted: Alton Towers, London Eye & London Dungeon tickets... (tho why the last 2 are through Staffs I don't know!!! Just get Staffs Fed number via your own Fed office or see posters usually put around stations).
Allied Carpets - 10% (on top of sale/special offers)
Virgin Active Gym - Corporate membership
Cannons Gym - Corporate membership
We do get free rail travel if using Silverlink trains to London - but not on Underground, but again expected to deal with anything that occurs on the train (if the ticket man can remember where you are sitting that is!)
There are loads of others, but as others have said, it's all via Fed Office & Welfare Office - they should have all the details.0 -
Nandos have stopped the discount to NHS staff
(I went and got my card and everything for the first time and they said policy had changed due to everyone and their dog using the discount)Treat everyday as your last one on earth, and one day you will be right!0 -
I phoned to pre-book Alton Towers last week, mentioned my hubby works at the P.O and got discount. Price should of been £27, got it for £19.50, my son and his mates were going, I had to pay for ticket over phone, write a letter of consent for him to pick up ticket, they gave me a referance number, I had to give the last 4 numbers of visa card on letter. The fast track tickets to get on rides quicker is £6.50. (they brought them when they got there, it may of been cheaper over phone) So we were still in pocket by 50p.
As alton towers is part of madame tussards group it might apply for other places too.0 -
Regarding the earlier question about charities.
Charities can get trade membership at Costco for both the charity officer who applies and any number of charity staff/volunteers. Otherwise it is down to what you can negotiate. The blood bike charity that I do work for ( http://www.freewheelers.org.uk ) gets a 10% discount for members at the local bike shop - very useful for new helmets, leathers etc. Also as volunteers for an NHS affiliated charity we get membership of NHS Discounts (previously mentioned in this thread)
My company gives us costco membership (although we have to pay), corporate membership of bringme - a discount scheme run by Lloyds bank. This allows us to buy stuff at discounts. Some are entirely forgettable but the useful ones are 10% off on vouchers from a number of companies including Comet and Halfrauds, £10 off at all Tussauds attractions including Alton Towers, 10-20% off at a huge number of online stores. Well worth it. We also have a separately negotiated employee discount deal at Apple stores.

I bought a fridge/freezer and dish-washer for my parents recently and asked at the end of the conversation if i could have a further discount for cash and was told no it wasn't possible. I am very disappointed in John Lewis! I'm a retired nurse and am even poorer than the normal nurse!clarew wrote:Members of the rcn, royal college of nursing can get discounts on various shops via their website. It lets you buy vouchers at a discounted price(some 5%off, some 7.5% some 10% off) for outlets including:
john lewis, kingfisher (woolworths, comet,b+q), high street vouchers (loads of shops including iceland, wilkinson), pc world, earnest jones, whitbread (beefeater) and many other food outlets.
If you've a big spend (ie;diy/fridge freezer etc) it does add up. In true moneysaving style, i even persuaded my hubby to let me get the vouchers when i had chosen my engagement ring! (we were students at the time, and £80 saved by doing this was a big saving!!)
-nhsdiscounts.com, is another way to save-again various special offers you can use, once registered.
nhs staff also can get costco membership for £25 plus vat, (need to show recent wage slip)
Hope this is of some use. :j , some money saved, but these discounts don't justify the rubbish wages we get!0 -

Sorry but there's no point being disapointed today no one gives discount except the independant retailers and often they won't.
At the end of the day why should shops give anyone discout?
