traffic wardens and police get free transport on bus services in and around the cardiff area on showing their I.D or in uniform
Only when on duty as they are expected to act as a deterent on public transport and provide a safer ride for fare paying passengers.

  • Apparently, not tried it myself, but I work for the NHS and my colleague went into Subway in Wigan with her ID badge on and they told her that NHS staff on production of their badge if they bought the sub meal of the day, they got one free!! Luckily for her, she had somebody with her.

    :T

    Hope this helps someone.

In Cannons health club I get a premium membership for the price of an off peak one because I am an employee of the county council. Several other big organisations also get this 'corporate' deal, which i think they contribute towards, so it is worth checking if you are thinking of joining.

Civil Servants [and Post Office workers] can get all kinds of discounts if they join the Civil Service Sports Council [approx £2.60 per month]. For example I buy Vue cinema tickets for only £3.00.

Do you think they would count teachers as civil servants?
    The site says
Anyone who is an employee in a government department or agency, Royal Mail, BT, and other public bodies such as museums, research councils and companies carrying out ex-civil service work and past employees of these organisations who are retired on pension.
and I am a teacher employed by the county council. Is that a public body? I fancy that cinema price...

i work for kelloggs. we get any kellogg product for 60p, no matter what it cost in the shops. they just chose 60p as a price for everything. used to work for mcvities and their shop was so cheap it was crazy. they would end up giving boxes of biscuits away just to make room for the next lot. i also worked for premier foods a few years ago, and they got really random things in the shop, like crates of fosters for £5. there was a near riot with people trying to fill their cars.
mfi employees get a decent discount of new kitchens, i worked there as well.
    Mortgage £242500 on completion
    FD CC 11/2014 £5900 (£3900 after BT)
    FD loan Approx £5700

    Deeply depressing total - £254100

I believe it's only Civil Service and related organisations - teachers and people like me work for local authorities and miss out on the Civil Service perks, even though local authorties carry out arguably more functions for the people of the UK than Central Government ever will. Soapbox away now

Apologies if this has already been mentioned but I did a search and couldn't find it. My company is registered with http://www.youatwork.co.uk. Employees can register with the site and get a password/username. On there, they have some pretty good promotions, but also some decent regular deals. For example you can buy vouchers for most high street shops/supermarkets and if you buy £100 worth you get £5 for free. For the weekly food shop - or if you want to buy something big in Argos say - it's a pretty good deal IMHO. They seem to have quite a lot of employers on their books (probably mostly big companies though), so might be worth checking if yours is registered - I've generally found employers aren't very good at advertising stuff like this.

  • The Apple Store in the trafford centre gave us a 6% discount on a gorgeous new macbook simply for showing our NHS ID cards - don't know if it'll work anywhere else but it's worth a try!
