I fill an old spray bottle with half an inch of washing up liquid, half an inch of vinegar & top it up with hot water. Spray over the windows & give a good scrub then wipe off & polish up with something like a microfibre cloth or kitchen roll. I use an old razor blade scraper thing for getting splashes of paint and the like off. HTH

Use old newspapers to buff to a good shine once washed.

I use a soapy cloth and give them a good rub all over - then I use a squeagy to remove the suds and leave them smear free.
if i miss a bit, i'll get a cloth with vinegar on it and rub untill the smear goes.

    Hi Eliza,

There's an earlier thread with lots of tips on cleaning windows so I've added your thread to it to keep the suggestions together.

That's what I do, some hot water with a squirt of stardrops, rub the window well with a microfibre cloth and then get rid with a squeegie.
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.
  • What do people do to clean outside windows on the upstairs of the house without using a professional window cleaner?

Are any of the pole type systems any good (don't really want to use a ladder...)
  • I once asked a friend about window cleaning back in the days when I could go out for the Sunday papers and come back having spent £60 on food and clothes in the 400 yards to WH Smith (through M&S and past Miss Selfridge, La Senza and Next.)

He suggested vinegar and newspaper so I traipsed into the kitchen and reported down the phone, "I've only got balsamic...will that do?"
Only to be on the receiving end of about five minutes of him laughing so much he almost needed fresh underwear.

    Slightly unchivalrous, I thought.
