But I used to put Aimee's basket in her cot... and got sick of carrying the basket up and down pretty quick so she just used to lie on the sofa...

As Krystaltips says, a lot of people sell both together (we got ours for £7!) so that's the most cost-effective way. We used ebay and looked for a 25-mile radius so it's not too far to go to collect (not worth it for the price). Baby items seem to come up regularly so you should be able to get a good deal.
As long as the baby's supervised I can't imagine you can't put the basket direct on a couch - the only issue potentially if you left the room is a sudden movement knocking it off, but not particularly likely I would have thought.MFW Challenge member no. 96 - on hold!

I guess if he gets the job you'll need to work out some ground rules for the workplace otherwise it could get messy (even if you are the boss at home anyway!)MFW Challenge member no. 96 - on hold!
