Miscarriage is still a risk, even after seeing the heartbeat... The risk reduces after 12 weeks... And your dates go off the first day of your last period so it works out that you're 2 weeks pregnant when you conceive...A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Yeah getting used to the EDDs can be a little tricky
as explained then your wife was "technically" pregnant before she concieved
Yes the chances of miscarriage reduces BUT I would not count my chickens yet... others on here have had miscarriages after seeing the heartbeat - if there is a defect the babys heart can stop for various reasons and things can still go wrong.
I told everyone very early on in my pregnancy - mainly due to suffering extreemly bad morning sickness and ending up in hospital with dehydration - I had little choice but to tell work and my family and thus eventually friends too that the reason I was suddenly so severely ill was actually because I was pregnant
Given the choice again I would if I could wait till 12 weeks thoughDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

thanks for the replies.
So let me see if i understand this correctly.
Whole pregnancy is 42 weeks, but because date of conception is actually week 2 ending/week 3 starting, the real pregnancy is only 40 weeks long?
and so the 12 weeks of first trimester is only 10 actual weeks after conception?
is that correct?0 -

Congratulations!!!!! :j
Foam bath support. Used them for both DS1 and DS2. You have to squeeze them out in the water first or they float, but it does make baby feel nice and secure (and softer than a bath mat on their bums).
Ender, medically pregnancy is 38 weeks (from conception to birth), but they add on the 2 weeks from the date of last menstrual period to the conception to make it up to 40, simply as it is easier to work out key dates that way.

My wife just had her 1st scan at 7 weeks & 2 days (private hospital).
We could see the tiny little baby (10cm long).
We could also see the heartbeat.. and the little bag of nutrients next to it.
It was amazing. They gave us a photo of it to keep :-)
So now we've seen the heartbeat, does that mean the chance of miscarriage is reduced?
too early to tell everyone about pregnancy yet?
Also, what EDD does this mean? The hospital said 7 weeks & 2 days has gone by, but we thought the conception date was 8th march which would make 5 weeks & 2 days.
Congrats! But just to clarify, the measurement will actually have been 10mm (1cm) long - not 10cm :-)0 -
Just a quickie - Congrats to SLS - beautiful name, can't wait for the birth story.
I snore anywayand am really bunged up atm AND my gums are bleeding. OH wears ear plugs to bed - I fidget loads at the moment because my left side goes dead after awhile and I don't like lying on my back anymore
Think it will only be a matter of time before I get relegated to the spare room!
Got most of what I wanted done yesterday but sun came out so ended up in the garden again!
17 weeks today :TA very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
