Evening girls, hope your all ok, gonna go catch up.
DD's Op went ok, tubes not blocked so that was good but means more investigations later. Bit tearful but she's ok. They wouldn't let me stay with her as it was not visiting hours so I spent the first 4 hours sitting in the corridor as I promised I would stay with her, was awkward as they were bringing in women who were obviously having problems with their pregnancies (they deal with up to 20wks) and there was me sitting there with a huge bump.Too many children, too little time!!!0 -
I guess I don't really get the christening/sunday school thing first so the kid can then make mind up/opt out? Surely it's when they get older that can truly explore what they believe so why impose a particular way of doing things before they're capable of understanding it? I'd rather just encourage them to be curious, questioning people. If they ask about god, I'd explain about what different people believe (not present it as truth, which is what a sunday school would do) - and also explain what we think (again not present it as truth) and allow them to work out their opinion of all of that themselves.
I also wouldn't do compromise on something that's about your core principles/beliefs for the parents! Luckily ours didn't express any expectations for our wedding so we did it our way (and even DH's Christian Grandmother, who'd refused to go to other weddings when they weren't Christian said it was the most moving and meaningful wedding she'd been to). If they had disapproved, well, that would say more about them and than it woulod about us (isn't life too short to spend time and energy being disapproving or passing judgment?). I'd rather be totally sincere in what I was saying (wedding is a really important time to be sincere after all!) than please people who have their own particular beliefs.
I don't have a problem with people believing and going to church either but I guess I just don't understand the kind of 'just in case' or 'just because I think/ppl think I should' type approach to things like weddings and christenings.MFW Challenge member no. 96 - on hold!

Aww tara, I guess you were both kind of hoping that if the tubes were blocked then this would be a solution, and now you will have to go through more tests. Hugs to both of you xxThe two best things I have done with my life

The problem we have in Northern Ireland mountainlioness is that alot of the schools are still attached to chapels or are predominately protestant. I know that shouldnt make a difference, but unfortunetly it does and if you are just outside catchment and needing to fight for the last place, then the church / chapel you belong to can play a part in it.
As I said, Jasmine is being taught both of our families religions and we also discuss why mummy and daddy dont go to church, so even at 6 she is perfectly aware of the fact that not everyone believes the same thing.
I personally feel that what we have done was for the best and hope that by giving her all of these different opinions early, she will be a more rounded person for itThe two best things I have done with my life

Well - life and marriage is about compromises
This is one I am willing to make because DH wants Roo to have "proper" godparents - his mother "approving" is a by product more than anything
I can assure you that if there was no other reason then her views would have NO effect on my decision.
And I wasn't made to go to sunday schools etc as a child although I did get confirmed because it was something that really mattered to my grandparents... as they were like a second set of parents to me I was happy to do it for them... When I became my half brothers Godmother though I had a word with the priest (who incidently was the one who confirmed me lol) and explained that my paths had taken me in a different direction - however I understood my duties and would teach him about God as well as other religions in an unbiased way etc and she agreed to alter a tiny word for me so that it was acceptable to allI solemnly promised to bring him up WITH the faith, and not IN the faith
And should the need arise that is exactly what I will do... I couldn't stand and lie in a church in the face of something people believe in so the priest and I found a way round it
She was obviously satisfied (and does know my grandparents very well) that I meant that I would teach him about christianity in an unbiased way as she allowed it
I think there are arguments for and against really - And some will probably disagree but then again I am sure even more will be outraged that she'll be welcomed in a pagan celebration tooAlthough DH won't be there for that one... he doesn't "like" it but he's willing to let me do my thing because he knows it matters to me... all about compromises

Good luck to all who are having scans tomorrow. My SIL had her scan today and everything seems to be fine although they have no idea what is causing the bleeding.
I don't have hot feet (although my temperature is always all over the place), but I am suffering from Restless Leg Syndrome I think. Anyone else getting this? It's driving me nuts. I just want to shake my right leg like a nutter when I am sitting on the sofa!!!0 -
