Cleaning Painted Walls

Hi all o/s posters, I am looking for advice on cleaning painted walls that have become scuffed and marked by kids in general. I don't want to spend a fortune on paint at the moment so any advice would be welcome. A cheap solution that has been tried and tested would help me greatly. Thanks in advance Dinkydee

the general vote seems to be with sugar soap, judging by the answers on other threads. See also the mega indexed thread, and

i had this problem last week and made up a solution of bicarb and water so it's like a watery paste and wipe over the scuff marks don't rub hard as the paint tends to come off on the cloth just keep going over the marks gently. the bicarb will dry to a powder after a time, but that's ok just have your hoover ready to clean it up. if you wish you can leave the bicarb powder on the wall for an hour or so then wipe off with a damp cloth. let me know if this works for you it did for me!!!!

In a fit of energy I want to give my walls a good clean. One of the bedroom walls is a purple colour and has various scuffs and marks; I have tried washing it with warm soapy water but that didn't help.

Oh dear - I was afraid someone would suggest that. I may have to start reading that thread. I feel a big big clean coming on!
Seriously though - I have never used it, I will get myself over to the thread and have a look.

Hi
Im afraid I have to say stardrops too, yesterday I had am overwhelming urge to try and clean the really dirty walls in my rented house and had tried loads of things since moving in and had thought I was going to have to repaint. But yesterday I went with a microfibre cloth in hot water with a small squirt of stardrops and used a good amount of elbow grease and was really pleased with the results, even my 4 year old was pleased with the results!!!

Sugarsoap is the stuff for cleaning painted walls. It will clean and degrease the walls without damaging the paint surface. You can buy a bottle in any hardware store, you might even find it in a poundshop with a decent hardware section.0

sugarsoap is great - my village shop sells it so fairly common

OK I looked high at low at Sainsbury but no stardrops to be found with the cleaning bits. Once Igot to the Persil type bits however there was a small little bag of Soda Crystals hidden next to it; when I saw they were 58p I said to myself this looks like it could be the ticket.
The packet says it does everything I can find here - I just tried a quick scrub of my sink and I am hooked. Fab stuff.
