Time to change from BT - HELP!

  • I pay by direct debit and I am apparently approx £80 in credit. I believe the £14.50 is for the whole of the contract year plus any extra calls I make outside the evenings and weekends. So you're saying I should ask for all the credit back and start from scratch or do I just go to Sky ? I know it might seem simple but at my age and the weekend I've had I'm struggling :D.
  • Ok so I'm sorted on the TV now, Freesat is enough for what I need. I didn't realise they had this option. Not sure what planet I've been on but glad they have this forum. Just phone and Tinernet now. I am a very light user on the phone by the way.

Yes but what is the remaining time on the contract? Or have they offered you a full 12 or 18 month new contract at the lower rate? You need to ask them what the real rate is, how else can you compare? BT Broadband Option 1 plus Unltd W/end and Evng calls plus line rental should cost around £26.90 total, but that is based on an 18m contract. So at £14.50 they are crediting you about £12.40 a month. Based on £80 credit due, that will last 6 months only.
Not clear what Sky has to do with this, it has no bearing on your phone/broadband arrangement. Sky do not publicise Freesat because they don't want you to use it, so they will do everything they can to retain you as a subscription customer.,
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Sorry for the confusion with the TV, I was thinking if I changed then I would get the TV, phone and broadband as a package and not just the phone and broad. I'm gonna opt for the Freesat with Sky and save £19.50 pm and pay just £19.37 for the new card, result . Sorry it was a long celebratory weekend and I know what I mean :rotfl:. Women hey!

OK when I phone BT tomorrow, coz that's when the complaints lady is back in I will go through it with her again. The contract I believe to be a 12 month one but again I will check. She also said that if I did wish to cancel tomorrow I would not incur any charges/penalities at all due to the problems I have had. So I just need to decide what to do.

Why are you having to pay £19.37 for a Sky card?....Your existing card will still work for 'Freesat'
  • Sky told me I had to buy a Freesat card and they know I have Sky TV already . Anyway have decided to keep my Sky TV afterall and not go for the Freesat. There are some stations I can't get. By the way, is it worth having Sky+ as they said I could have it for free with free box and installation at a reduced cost of £30. Is it worth the money and the hassle? I'm not that techy you understand :rotfl:.

    Complaint with BT sorted.
Total of £42.21 credit being added to my BT account.
Phone, Broadband and Line for 1 year with free Evening and Weekend Calls is £16.58. Line charge is included by the way. Only extras will be for any calls made outside evening and weekend calls. They have apologised for mis-selling this. The adviser is going to get coaching. Also I am happy with this considering I was paying £49.50. I already have credit of £80.35 and they have assured me that I will not have any direct debits taken out for a while. I have also asked them to confirm everything in a letter. I made it perfectly clear what I had agreed to so if they get it wrong this time I will be suing them.

I was considering SKY Talk and Broadband but they said as soon as I join they would downgrade my line and I would not be happy. However, I could join coz it will be upgraded as soon as they can get round to it but didn't have a date. I thought forget it coz it could be years. At least I know what I have dealing with, with BT and they had the wrath of Linda and they don't wanna be doing that again :rotfl:.

So anyone thinking of going to BT, BEWARE!!!!!

They might give you Sky+ free for a few months to stop you cancelling your sub, but then you'll be paying for it at £10 a month for the rest of the contract. Don't quite understand your comments on Freesat, which channels can you not get?
If you want to make economies, surely dropping Sky at £20 (for not outlay) is a no-brainer?
BT deal seems OK, as that's about £10 under the normal rate, so you'll get your £120 credit back in about a year.

  • MacMan, thanks for your reply. Not sure what we'd do without people like you so thank you.

I understand I don't get Sky 1, 2 and 3, Gold, Bravo and stuff like that. I need a giggle or else what's the point. I am currently looking at the Variety and Lifestyle packages which is £17.50 but if I go for it they will give me 20% off for 9 months.

Oh I don't know what to do now.

I get the distinct feeling that your BT savings are all about to disappear into Mr Murdoch's already bulging pockets...
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • MacMan, so you think I should still go for the FreeSat then and just get out more :rotfl:. With the summer just around the corner it seems to make sense. Hmmmmmmmmmmm decisions, decisions.
