Time to change from BT - HELP!

Hi, I'm am new to this so be gentle :rotfl:.

I need help. I am so confused with trying to change my broadband and having looked at the reviews for various companies am even more confused . I am currently with BT and I'm paying £49.50 for my home phone, line and broadband. I am a very light user at around £3.50 over 3 months on calls as I have the free weekend and evening calls and I only use broadband for surfing the internet, you know shopping and stuff, no downloads of films or music. I will be out of work from the end of June and need to make some cuts oh and find a job :o.

BT said they would reduce my broadband to £9ish a month and with the line it's still high. Not sure whether to push for more or go to either Virgin or Sky. I currently have a Sky TV package.
Can someone help please? Confused of Woking, Surrey :EasterBun

There is no need for the Sky max package if you are only a light user.

BT line rental is £11.25 ( paperless billing/direct debit)...if BT will reduce the BB rental to £9 then combined is £20.25 per month ( with free evenings/weekend calls).
Sky line rental ( paperless/direct debit) £10, minimum TV package £16.50 Sky BB 'Mid' £5 ( if you take Sky Talk) ,
total £ 31.50 per month if you are in a Sky broadband area. You could also save another £5 with Sky BB base but its only 2Gb allowance/2Mb speed, obviously the Sky price has TV, the BT price doesnt.
Sky broadband is cheap as long as you are taking Sky TV.
Talk Talk offer 'free' broadband if you take a £6.50 call package so they would be about £18 per month
Ask if you are in contract before switching as any cancellation fee may wipeout any saving ,also cheapest may not
be the only thing to consider, check things like calls to customer service ( is it 'free' etc ) and whats not included with each company.

Good luck with the job hunting

You could also cancel the sky TV and that would save you per month :)

Get rid of Sky, or at the very least switch to Freesat from Sky.
Your BT bill should not be anything like £49.50, how is that calculated?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Hi thanks for your help. I went back to BT and have managed to get the £49.50 down to £14.50 pm which includes internet, phone with free evening and weekend calls and line rental. The price has included a £2 reduction on the line rental too. I was so taken aback that I had to accept. Then the next day my friend said that Virgin had made up with Sky and now you can get Sky on Virgin. I am now kicking myself as I could have saved even more, I think they call that s*ds law. I am still quite happy so thanks again.

The good news, well if it is good news, I'm staying with BT. Yes I know, but the deal was too good to refuse. After paying £49.50 pm they have agreed to reduce it to £14.50 to include line rental, free evening and weekend calls and internet . That includes a £2 reduction in the line rental, unbelieveable.

Oh apart from hearing at the weekend that I could've had Virgin with TV and saved even more money but then I thought they were still having a row with Sky and I can't miss me Road Wars and stuff, no way Pedro :rotfl:. Anyway, best advice I can give, if at first you don't suceed try, try again. The first call I made the guy wouldn't give anything but taking the bit between my teeth decided I would give it another go. Result I would say. Internet still drops out but then I'm not a serious user so I can live with it for the time being, and they agreed to try and increase the speed Yippee.

I hope that you recorded the conversation with BT, as espresso says, it doesn't sound right. I would have a bet that your bill is for more than £14.50 a month.
  • Hmmm your reckon. I will phone them now and ask again.
    Thanks for the tip.
