That deal is impossible-it's less than the cost of the line rental and call package alone. What was the catch-a 25 year contract?

Reason why we changed from BT and NTL/Virgin to TalkTalk

went from £18 pm with BT for £5 average calls per month and £18 per month Virgin/NTL = £36 pm average to averaging £16pm BB and telephone with TalkTalk

  • I phoned BT and they have set the DD at £14.50 but didn't tell me it's because of the credits I already have on the account. They also said they would credit my account with £24 for the extra £2 saving on the line rental. When I asked why they said that way I would get the whole amount of the VAT allowance, otherwise I don't. Guess what they didn't do it. They said the amount of the contract would not be met by the DD's. I told them who in their right mind would agree to being in debt coz the DD's wouldn't meet your usage. No one!

I can't believe it, you were right after all. I am now going to get out of this contract come what may and if they argue the toss then they ain't seen nuffink yet !!!!!!!!

    Well watch this space!

I'm not surprised that they have said you are in credit-how long have you been paying £49.50-should have been more like £30-35?
I would just ask them to send you a cheque for the amount you are in credit and then take it from there.

  • Hi Guys

Thanks to all of you for your replies they have been very helpful.

So the upshot of BT, you never guess what, they have owed up to having misled me and have agreed to give me the line rental, phone and broadband for £14.50 per month and will credit my BT account with all the relevant sums to make this happen. Funny isn't it, they couldn't find the taped telephone conversation which I knew would be the case. If it wasn't for you guys I would have been none the wiser to all of this, so thank you :j. Also the customer service adviser said if I cancelled the following day I would have to pay for the full year to get out of the contract, however, when I was going through it all with BT on Saturday, the cancellation day is today. God what a mess. Do I really want to stay with a company that will does this to it's customers. However, going by your messages, it seems all providers are capable of it.

I was wondering whether to go to Virgin as I have an ex-Cabletel connection in my house. I know someone there who does the installations, trouble is I can't find his number to phone him, doh! I pay Sky £19.50 per month and as I will be out of work at the end of June need to make the DD's pretty keen as I was out of work for 4 months last year, not nice :(. It seems you can get quite a good overall deal.

Shame this is a Money Expert site or else I would start a "How to find a nice man" thread :rotfl:. Oh it was my birthday yesterday what a fab weekend I had. Sorry I digress :rotfl:.

God I don't know what to do now.
  • What do you get on Freesat on Sky?

If I understand correctly, they owe you money having overcharged you (you don't say how much you are in credit). If they are now charging you only £14.50 a month, that indicates that they are crediting you back only £x a month, so what is your 'real' ongoing charge? The £14.50 rate will only continue as long as you are in credit. If it's say £200 in credit, then it's going to take a couple of years for it to balance-that's your money they are holding on to in the meantime.
I don't understand why you don't just ask them give you a full repayment now for the amount overpaid, and then you can either negotiate a new rate with them or take your business elsewhere if you are out of contract.
Freesat from Sky-channel info is all on their website, it's basically the same except no premium channels. If you're looking to save some money then Sky subscription is the first thing to drop as that's an imediate saving of £234 pa for the same service.
