I am claiming bank charges of 1750 through Lloyds Tsb, have anyone had any success with this bank this year? I am claiming hardship, as lost my job, working as a temp with 2 young children and on my own. I can see that people have responded with success stories last year which is great, but wondered if anyone had any joy this year?

This is the information I have from LloydsTSB:

"Any letters can be sent to:
Andover Customer Service Recovery Centre, Lloyds TSB, Charlton Road, Andover, SP10 1RE.

The Monetadvicetrustadvice Income & Expenditure forms are acceptable.
You need to complete and income and expenditure form(household) with any notices of arrears.

We will always send a letter to acknowledge receipt of a customer complaint within 5 working days and our final response must be issued within 8 weeks. However, we will of course aim to issue our response well within this time period."

  • Do you know how long the process takes from start to finish? Reading some of the threads, Lloyds doesnt seem to like to pay out and many people seem to be complaining about them. I send the letter that Martin suggests about 1 week ago, should I now chase it?:j

As I said in the post above, that was the information I had from them. They should be sending you an acknowledgment but we do have postal disputes which may be holding that up at the minute.

Are you still a student? How much of the amount you have said is interest free?
Are there any charges on the credit card?

  • Hi all

I could really do with some advice, and I can see lots of you on here have had success.

I am trying to claim charges from Halifax and have been in contact via letter and recorded delivery since April 2009 although I am claiming back to June 2007.

I went over my overdraft limit in April and because of this I received over £200 in charges, since then I have cut back to try to make up this money and get myself out of the "hole" that I seem to be in, but to no avail. Since April I have been having between £200 - £300 a month in charges with the latest being 5 letters in the last week for over £500. I've managed to pay my rent this month but come the 1st October I have no idea what will happen as these charges are going to be taken on 18th September. I have no money left for food this month, so this resulted in a tearful conversation with my parents last night asking for money and food.

Anyway, I have completed 2 financial statements and returned to Halifax with explanations and highlighting the fact that I am a single parent, working full-time and I can not get any more income than I have. I have also lost £80 a week in WFTC as I have an overpayment. The reply that Halifax have given me is that they do not consider me to be in financial difficulties.

The latest reply from Halifax has been that they want a detailed breakdown of all of my bills. I had to move from my rented house at the end of August as my landlord had sold the house I was in, so my rent has increased. On the form I indicated that I can not afford my electric bill (from the old place) of £199, I also can not put my daughter in to childcare (so that I can work) as I owe £156 (morning) and £131.50 (after school). I also have water outstanding. With the charges that are going to go on this month I know that my rent will not be paid, so I'll be asked to leave as my new landlord is not at all understanding!

I am going to send the requested information to the bank, but I just don't know what to do any more. I have done everything as advised on this very helpful website.

Any help would be gratefully received, sorry to waffle on, and hope it makes sense.

Before the 18th (ie before they take the charges) try and get a new basic account open at another bank and try and change your income payments over to it.

Hopefully they will be able to do that. Your child benefit can be moved straight away too.

That will make sure you have the money for next month without losing the charges.

If you are unable to get your income moved over to a new account - then you need to try using your first right of appropriation. (will get you a letter if you need to do this)

You should cancel all your DDs and pay everything by cash/bill payment from the new account while you get things set up.

This will leave Halifax charging themselves and leave you with a debt, but the debt will be in dispute and we'll write to them again telling them what you have been forced to do because of their actions and reiterating your hardship claim. You may need to make a temporary affordable repayment offer to stop them defaulting you but the most important thing is you have your income available to pay your rent and food next month.

We'll need to do an income and expenditure form to go with the letter - can either use halifax's own one or the moneyadvicetrusts common financial statement which is also accepted. Then have a look at the budget and whats causing the charges.

Yes i am still a student just into my 2nd year now

Yes had £12 charges on card a few times
  • I got the info, you need to go into your branch and ask the person to look in their customer system/Customer Gateway and do a search under the heading of "migrated Account Enquiry" and they will be able to provide the details to you of the account.
