Ohhhh....that's good to know as I just switched from Halifax to Lloyds and I also have a CPW DD. I better check with them tomorrow.

Make sure you double check with CPW that they have received your new bank details as they don't seem to operate in the usual way of receiving electronic instructions. They will charge you for a missed payment as well as adding a surplus charge to your bill until the new DD is in the system, as their billing system prepares payments 2-3 weeks before they are due "An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Hi Paul
Just to ansa your questions:
1. Have my benefits always been paid directly into the account?
Yes - I am a full time mum and my partner has his salary paid into my account.
2. Are the amounts paid into my account less than say £500/month?
No always over £1000
3. Do I have a poor credit record with Halifax - say several years ago?
Just one missed payment otherwise all good.
4. Do I have a poor credit history elsewhere?
Nope I have been a good girl lol
5. Have I checked by credit reference file with Experian/Equifax?
Checked with both and all seems ok apart from the one missed payment, which is still on my report. I have checked and this should come off my report next year.
6. What reason did Halifax give me for changing from full account to cardcash account?
Initially it was due to paying in less than 1000 a month but that was only for a short period and have paid in over 1000 now for over 3 year
I suspect that the bank account side may be looking at old records in their possession which other banks and not even Halifax credit cards has access to! Other institutions probably just look at your Experian/Equifax file.
I haven’t thought of that, I will ask the advisor next time I am in there.Other things I do like about Halifax is their website. What I don't like about Halifax are the employees at my local branch. That may be because it is an Estate Agent as well! Also, you can no longer make deposits via the cash machine (since merger with Bank of Scotland).
I must agree with you there, their website is faultless I find it very easy to navigate and have always found the online helpdesk staff very helpful.
I agree about in bank staff they are the same here in Chester. We have two Halifax branches here and they have different staff but the same attitude - shame really as it puts me off going in there at times.
Can I ask BTW what type of ATM you are using, is it the Halifax one? As I can still deposit money through the ones we have.

5MINSALONE:
I think the problem of not being able to deposit into Halifax cash machines is that our local outlet is just an agency and not a real branch. You could deposit via the machines at agencies prior to the merger with Bank of Scotland.
I am still preplexed as to why they will not give you full current account. The £1,000/month reason seems ridiculous as it is not one of the terms of the account that you have to deposit £1,000 a month - only that in order to get the higher interest rate you have to deposit £1,000 a month.
I must admit I have considered Lloyds TSB - I find the staff at our local branch very helpful. In fact, I was in the process of moving mum's account from HSBC to Lloyds TSB when she died, but that was because HSBC staff on telephone banking have full access to your account password!0 -
Your perlexed lol its driving me round the bend.
Anyway am looking at some other accounts thanks to yourself and curry_queen, I shall report back if I find out any more
Sorry to everyone for making the thread go off on a tangent

From what you say, the account is in your name only, even though your husband has his salary paid into it.
Are Halifax looking at your husband's credit history as well in deciding whether to give you an account or not?0 -
Nope its in my name only and the bank havent been given any of his details so its not him.0

5minsalone:
I understand that when the bank does a credit check, they may also check other people who live at the same address and take their credit history into account as well.
I am not sure if they have to ask your permission before checking other persons living at the same address.0 -
Hummm I can see what your getting at but hes not on the electrol register yet so I cant see how they can.0

I don't think it is necessary for someone to be on the Electoral Roll to have their details on a Credit Reference Agency.
If your husband has any account, be that Bank. mortgage, landline phone, mobile phone, water gas, mail order etc. etc. for which he has used your address at least once, he will be on Credit Reference file with at least one agency.
Even if he has no accounts whatsoever but he has made application for an account of any sort then this will be registered with the Credit Reference Agency.
I seem to recall that there was legislation introduced to stop companies using the Credit Reference data of other persons at the same address. But this may only apply to persons who have no financial relationship you. Clearly, your husband does have a financial relationship with you.
You can get a copy of your Credit Reference file from a Credit Reference agency for just £2. I think it will show any persons who are linked to you financially. It is probably £2 well spent.
It could be that there is an error on your credit file. In which case you can ask for this to be corrected.0
