rtman85, I was actually sticking up for you, my friend

HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Did Talk Talk supply the modem, I thought you usually got a nice wireless router from most ISPs these days. USB modems can be a bottle neck themselves, especially if you have an older PC with USB1 ports.
According to Tinternet you can get the statistics as follows:-
In the system tray you should have a little icon with two arrows (normally green). Please double click this icon and it will open up the BT Voyager control panel.
Click on the Status button and then press CTRL + F1 on the keyboard to bring up a window on the left.
Select the DSL Link button to display your statistics.
It might be worth checking that you have the latest drivers for the modem.

It looks from the info you provided that your attenuation is 37 db, which would suggest that you should be going much faster, certainly over 7mbps.
Your current sync speed is 2700 kbps.
Do you notice any cracking or noise on your telephone line? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Hi mate
I have the latest drivers and I posted my stats using the ctrl f1 dsl link like you said.
I do have very noticible cracking on my telephone line, could that be anything to do with it?
I am going to join 02 Broadband soon anyway and see how I get on with them.

Forgot to also ask
Do you think if I bought another type of modem it would be any faster?0 -

Yes, this could well be the problem, get your phone provider to do a line check and sort this out before you do anything else. I'm puzzled you didn't mention this before. If there is a physical fault on the line, then changing to o2 will not make the slightest difference! No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

macman see as my adsl and telephone signals are separated, would it really matter if there was a telephone fault ie. crackling?
I'll ask TalkTalk to check it out anyway.0 -

I'll ask TalkTalk to check it out anyway.
If not, then they aren't really seperated at all - it's the same line, and if your telephone quality is bad then yes, it will affect adsl quality.0 -
By separated, do you mean you have 2 phonelines?

If you have a look at post 3 you will see exactly what I have.
I've reported the crackling noise to TalkTalk anyway.
