I was under the impression that they no longer held ks1 sats tests. I have dates for all ks2 tests at my kiddies school, but nothing for KS1. Now you have got me wondering...as dd3 is also in year 2 and should, be doing them this year!0

you cant just take kids out of school! Don't book anything until you hve the ok from school else you may be fined!0

i always just book and then hand a letter in! they are allowed so many days off and if you go that week then they only need one week as the second week is half term!i always go around this week never had a problem but the SATs are my problem this year!0

My sons primary have told us the SATS for KS1 will be done in the second week of June this year. His teacher said it is up to the school when they do them, so I would definitely check with the school0 -
bluebell thanks so much for that reply that is the kind of thing i am looking for i was wondering if its a national thing like gcses cos everyone would get papers on same day that way and schools couldnt cheat and find out from others whats on them like gsces etc but if they can do them when they choose then that makes it a very different story and i will be ringing school therefore so thanks!!!0

I have always understood KS1 SATS to be teacher assessed, so they do not sit an external exam.
However, my son's school has turned into a little SATS factory and I am hopping mad that a six year old child is feeling STRESSED because his teacher wants to push him to get strong Level 3s in his literacy - they took him out of his class on the last day of term to finish off a story which he'd started late because he'd been off for a day with earache (only day off since September!!!)
They want to be glad I didn't find out until school was closed for the evening!
I'm a teacher and I wish they'd scrap the KS1 SATS. Why should 6 year olds be worrying about reading comprehensions, etc.0 -
KS 2 SATS are the week beginning 11th May
KS 1 SATS are teacher assessed (ie they are not externally marked) and can be done anytime up to the middle of June.
Children are not allowed so many days of per se. The school can authorise up to 10 days in advance if the reason for the time off is valid0 -

I thought officially that they have, but some/most schools still use them as their form of assessment for the infant school period. They are teacher assessed, but sat as a test on separated individual desks (at our schools.) However I do know that two years ago when my eldest was 7, our local school had the local county council come in to review the results allocated to the tests, checking some borderline papers (my daughter was one of them).
OP - the schools choose when they do the tests for KS1. They are typically between Easter & the May half term, so both my kids schools do not authorise any absence during this half term period. This is also regardless of the age of the child since at our Infant & Junior schools, the whole school sits their annual tests during this time. The Junior school has SATS week on w/c 11th May.0 -

It is a complete myth that children are allowed 'so many days off' school. You obviously have a headteacher who turns a blind eye, but I can assure you that children are not allowed to take time out of school for holidays.0
