I phoned up and queried my order as it also said 24 x cdrw and 8 x dvd, he promised me it was a dvd writer as well, so I guess i will wait and see when it arrives.

    My Order confirmation states
Global- Dell Wireless 1370 802.11b/g Mini PCI Card
    and
Fixed Internal 8X DVD +/- RW Drive with Software

This was orderd on Saturday and was the £299 offer,

So you've got the wifi and dvdrw without paying for any upgrades??

Any chance of posting up your full order (inc o/n if possible but I understand if you dont want to) as the sales staff have been insisting that it is a dvdr/cdrw combo drive with no wifi and that the offer this week is different to last weeks.

I've paid for the upgrades as it's still a reasonable deal and I got a better price than it would be on the website, but if they should have been included anyway then I feel a DSR return coming on unless I get a refund......

It's in today's paper (mirror IIRC), £299 again, but this time it clearly states combo drive & doesn't mention wi-fi.

I have not seen press ads but would like to order and have asked helpful guy in Dell Ireland to check out spec confusion . He says current offer ref ends
135a instead 135 and dvd writer/wi fi not included.

There seems to be confusion about the technical specs even amongst Dell's own staff!

Ideally, ask for the machine with the e-value code N03135 (without the 'a' on the end, which includes wifi and a DVD writer) for £299. Dell's staff will tell you that the offer is no longer available, but you could try saying that you had problems ordering when the deal was being offered last week and they may agree to put it through.

"24 x cdrw and 8 x dvd" means it will write cd's at 24x speed and READ dvd's at 8x speed. for a dvd re-write it needs to say 8xDVDRW. a cd-writer/dvd reader is a "combo drive"
