We have got our laptop today and our son is well pleased with it. He has already got his games running perfectly OK on it.

Just a quick question as I don't know much about computer specs - how can I tell from the actual laptop what facilities it has. The chap at Dell told me it did not have a sound card and it most definitely has - glad I didn't fall for that one! But what about the wifi (whatever that is) and the DVD drive that everyone is talking about - how can I find out what is actually on/in the laptop?

Go to control panel/System/Hardware and click on device manager.

If you put an 'a' after the quick code for the offer - i.e. 1111-N03135a

You can get the option of the minimum spec version with CDWriter, No Wireless card and 256 Ram for £299
They promised the earth...and delivered mud. Technically though it did meet the spec.

At last, you can order it in the net! It's a shame it costs another £82.25 to get the same spec as the first machine! £35.25 for the wifi & £47 for the dvd writer.
You could always use a usb wifi dongle instead (around £14), but it does poke out. As the laptop only has an express slot, not a pc card slot, you couldn't add wifi that way.
But if you don't want wifi & a dvd writer, it's still a good buy, without the hassle of indian call centres putting the phone down & lying.
    Next year we'll be millionaires!

These laptops should be great for new users - you only really need a lot of power if you're going to be playing 3D games, or doing lots of video or photo editing.

I agree, these laptops are great, having just bought 1 for myself! If you do want to make them even faster for £25, you can do what I did and add 512 MB of RAM!
