My employer handbook was updated in September 08 but it still said 6 months and that was after I had a girl on mat leave and I told them it was 9 months! Morons.

OH cooking - The last time he cooked was in our old house over a year ago because he just turned around to go in the cultery drawer and went to the wrong place!!

FG :T:T - yay!! things are really coming along for you now!

How fast is this year going?!!!

I was waiting for my bump to drop - I'd been told I'd be able to breathe easier and the heartburn would go for a while. No chance! Bump looks the same, it isn't lower and I'm still swigging gallons of gaviscon!

Oh, I know what all the pain I felt yesterday was, and why the bumpy motorway trip was very painful - the baby is now engaged! No idea how much, they don't tell you here.

Ooh, exciting! Think you look fab in your pic on here, by the way. Definitely glowing and a lovely top too. I need to get some tops in that style I think!

Krystal you may be right- will see if I can find up to date info tomorrow.

I think it depends on how the baby is lying... He could be quite stretched out and making the most of any space he has now... I was looking at my bump earlier and wondering if it was lower... But I don't think so... Just wishful thinking....

Glam, I think time always goes quicker when you're calculating everything in weeks...

    34+1 and counting...

I agree - it helps to have little markers as well. Like consultant this week, 19 week scan in 3 weeks etc.

    16 weeks tomorrow :j

bump starting to stretching again - it hurts!!

Hi all.. *hugs* to all who need them!

feelie, looking fab in your piccie! :D Hurrah for bubs on his way to the exit too!

Nikabella, even if you got a scan tomorrow, they probably wouldn't be able to give you a definitive answer and you'd have to go back in a week - please don't pin everything on knowing for sure tomorrow if you do get a scan for then.
I started bleeding at 9+4 on a Sunday afternoon. Phone midwife on Monday morning who got me a scan (external and internal) for late Tuesday morning. They said they could see "something" but not having known what it looked like (or where it had attached) prior to the bleeding starting, they had nothing to compare it too and couldn't tell me if it was on it's way "out/down". I had to go back a week later but had the majority of the bleeding on the Tuesday after the scan and knew 99% that it was all over on the Sunday. My midwife (and colleagues) told me to stay off work until the majority of the bleeding stopped so I was off Mon-Fri then went in on Mon (cos I was going mad at home and I *knew* really) then off on Tues and Wed for the scan and to get myself together. Followed their advice, waiting two month, started trying again and now I'm back here again.. Remember, this is just my experience though and a lot of women have bleeding in the early weeks and still go on to have perfectly normal pregnancies :)

Everyone's been commenting on "what a lovely proper bump" I've got today.. It's like they haven't seen me for ages and it's come as a surprise, but I only saw them all on Friday! Made one of the managers jump back in surprise earlier tho - he was telling me how nice the Dominican Republic was and how I should go.. I told him I had other plans for this summer and he asked what, so I stood up, turned sideways and said "having a baby!". For a man with three kids, he was rather naive about how I'd managed to suddenly become pregnant overnight and be going off in the summer.. clearly has been looking me in the eyes only for the last few months! ;)

Plans for this evening involve some sorting of junk.. Also got to find my Jimmy Carr tickets - was convinced it was either 17th or 18th of April but one of the guys at work is going on the 12th and he's only doing two dates here so mine might be 11th after all!!

MrsTine and other knowledgable peeps on here can you help me with a maternity pay Q please? My work handbook states that I will get 6 weeks at 90% pay then a further 20 weeks at £123.10 a week (SMP). However look at the direct.gov site it states:

    How much do you get?

Statutory Maternity Pay is paid for a maximum period of 39 weeks. It is paid:
    • at 90 per cent of your average gross weekly earnings with no upper limit for the first six weeks; and
    • for the remaining 33 weeks at either the standard rate of £123.06 or 90 per cent of your average gross weekly earnings (if this 90 per cent rate is less than the standard rate)
Does the maximum (underlined) mean that the employer does not have to pay that much? Could my employer only offer 26 weeks total?

    Thanks muchly x x x

I don't know when the rules changed from 6 months - but I am guessing here and thinking that maybe your employer only pays you for that length of time but you can apply to get the money from the government somehow after that? I would however ask them outright to find out as as Krystal says it sounds like they might not have updated that section of the handbook :)
