Lizziebell I tried calling the EPAU & they said they can't see me without my doctors referral. I tried to pull myself together for the appointment - wiped my eyes, stopped crying etc - maybe this was a mistake as he didn't seem to be very concerned. I'm going to do everything I can to make sure I get referred tomorrow as I can't take not knowing.

I can't believe you had to wait 4 days for your EPAU scan Kyrstaltips, that must have been horrendous for you. Sometimes it seems like the healthcare profession really don't care that much about your pregnancy when to you it means the world.

Im going to, after Citizens advice im going to get a load of leaflets and info and shove it in their faces and maybe say "suck on that" if im feeling paticually b*tchy :p lol.

I went to HR today to give them a copy of the letter i gave to my manager, and asked if i could speak to someone regarding materntiy pay etc. And they said they'll get someone to come and get me when i come back from lunch.
They didn't they just told my team leader to tell me i wont be getting a risk assesment until i provide a MatB1 form. I said "thats a bit late isn't it?"
And he said "well its what they said"

but i didn;t want to have a go at him as he was being really nice :(
Cant shout at the middle man can i?
So now im feeling  &

I think if I was you I would be tempted to email HR dept (that way you have a record of what you've said) and say that you have specific concerns that warrant a risk assessment earlier than 20 weeks? You could mention what your doctor said, or not, but I think you saying that should be enough to make them act. If a pregnant lady made that specific request, in writing then they would be on very sticky ground if, god forbid, anything bad did happen:confused:.I very much doubt they would take that risk.

Just realised that I will need to think about a risk assessment soon. No idea what will come up on mine but as I am on my feet for 8 hours at a time, lifting, twisting etc probably quite a lot will come out of it!

    Welcome Tigster!! :D Congratulations!

I have been trying to find it recently with a doppler and I am now 10w5d (without much padding) and still can't get anything except my own heartbeat and big swooshing noises every so often. It says on the box to use from 12 weeks, but like you said the baby is still small now, less than 4cm and could be in any number of places I reckon.

I keep dropping in every so often but waiting a bit longer to be added to the list etc. Want to have the dating scan (Thurs) then private nuchal scan (next Tues) first and then maybe I will be more confident this time.......cheers

I found this site very useful for knowing what I was hearing - it might help you identify the heartbeat.

Have you quit work altogether? So jealous. Would love to not be in work right now.

I'm not working but it kind of happened itself really, because I was made redundant at the end of last year then I got a contract for three months which ended so I'm working from home a bit and mostly bumming around! I love it cos I'm doing housework and getting the place sorted.

Nikabella - your doctor is being a bit rubbish. I had bleeding at 7/8 weeks with my first pregnancy which started on a Friday and had a scan on the Monday. I expect your doctor is saying what he is because there isn;t anything they can do if you are haivng a mc, but of course you just want to know! I think if the bleeding is bad with cramps then you should prepare yourself for the worst. We lost our first baby in October but I was pregnant again a month later so there is hope even if you are losing it. Massive hugs to you hon :A

I bought a nice top in the charity shop today - it's not maternity but it is a size 14 and long so it stretches round the bump OK! Was nearly a fiver though which feels bit steep.

Off to Tesco now to get some food.

    Thanks Skintchick :)

I'm not working at the moment either - and I'm quite glad, I didn't realise how tired I would be feeling at this stage! But I kinda need to find a job for a few months, we need the money, or this will be a very money-saving baby!

We're lucky - OH earns enough and we don;t have a mortgage so he can pay all the bills, pay me an allowance equal to my previous disposable income, still have his money AND save £400 a month! I'm still trying to do some work from home though, just to stop myself going mad!

MrsTine and other knowledgable peeps on here can you help me with a maternity pay Q please? My work handbook states that I will get 6 weeks at 90% pay then a further 20 weeks at £123.10 a week (SMP). However look at the direct.gov site it states:

    How much do you get?

Statutory Maternity Pay is paid for a maximum period of 39 weeks. It is paid:
    • at 90 per cent of your average gross weekly earnings with no upper limit for the first six weeks; and
    • for the remaining 33 weeks at either the standard rate of £123.06 or 90 per cent of your average gross weekly earnings (if this 90 per cent rate is less than the standard rate)
Does the maximum (underlined) mean that the employer does not have to pay that much? Could my employer only offer 26 weeks total?

    Thanks muchly x x x

Well i asked my TM who i could speak to about it and he said i would need to email HR, but he'll do it when im next in. I said that i think 5 months is a bit late for a risk assesment.
I'll send them an email when i get their email address and save a copy to my emails. Or should i write them a letter?

I'll speak to my doctor again, but i got my nurse appointment next wednesday to discuss my family history, so should i wait?

Im on quite varying shifts between now and then lol. Very annoying :|

got it spend it... Could your employee handbook be out of date and reffering to when maternity leave used to be 6 months?

Nikabella, the 4 days I had to wait were awful, but the sonographer we saw when we got to the hospital was really lovely, she was as relieved as we were to see the heartbeat on the screen.... You do feel like these people don't care but they're just not emotionally involved like we are... Really try to rest tonight, get your OH to run round after you, and don't go to work tomorrow!
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Oh, I know what all the pain I felt yesterday was, and why the bumpy motorway trip was very painful - the baby is now engaged! No idea how much, they don't tell you here.
