  • This is something I have never thought of doing. I have old necklaces, bracelets and rings gathering dust at the botoom of my jewellery box which are all gold. I have the odd earring as well.
    Thanks for the idea OAP!

I can really rate a company called 'We Buy Old Gold'.

Its a company based up in Scotland. I saw them originally being talked about on here, so me and my mum gave it a go and sent off a bundle each.

If you go to their website, you can request an envelope for free - its special delivery so all insured.

Sent it off in the free envelope, about 36 hours later, I had a phone call. Lovely Scottish man offered me £280 for mine, and £420 for my mums. Accepted next day it was in my bank account - never expected that much. A local jeweller had offered me about £50 for it!!!

You have to fill in a form with the jewellery and send a photocopy of an id to prove the jewellery is yours and matches your bank account to prevent stolen jewellery.

Since then my mum has sent off 2 more lots and got £1500!! Unbelievable.

Always respond to emails quickly to, they even have a refer a friend scheme which you can make a few quid from aswell.

So easy to deal with, and quick. My mum tells everyone about them now.
Is a sufferer of SAD, so don't blame me, blame the depressing English weather!!!

Hi again, well we are still at the cross roads, the chap in our local shopping mall is very good and gives instant cash, many folk where I live have been to see him, however, I did question h im the other day, why is yours so much less than the internet, he said they could not compete with the internet, overheads and all that, but he does only sit in the mall, not inside a shop, he did say be careful where you send it off to,he was offering around £13 a gram for 18 carat plus, quite a bit less than the net, so we keep on wondering what to do, but must do something soon.

It is a bit difficult selling wedding rings that have beloned to mum's, grandma's, great grandma's and grandads, somehow you feel guilty, but they are doing nothing sitting in a drawer!!

The chap in the mall has a little file and he asks for permission to scrape a bit of the gold if he is not sure, I was watching him with a chain as he was not sure, the lady did not mind and it was gold, so he took it.

How they tell what carat I do not know really, its a trust thing I suppose.

Thanks for the safe links, will have a look around if there is a big difference, maybe just try one item and see what happens!!

    Best wishes and thanks oap

    OAP,
On gold forums I visit regularly the advice given if somebody wants to start filing, sawing or taking a Black and Decker to your gold is, "run, quick" they're a cowboy.
All this geezer will do is post it of to the sites you have been given here. What overheads has the guy got anyway?
If you don't need the cash now hang on to your gold.

    Good fortune.

    I always use

    http://www.cashforyourgold.co.uk/

Best price compared to all the others including hatton garden, also reliable. I have just sent some more off today. They also buy platinum.
Found them excellent. They phone you next day with a quote, and the money was in my account 2 hours later. They have all the proper equipment to test if its gold or not.
Highly recommended, and no i don't work for them lol.
  • What happens to gems set in the gold? One site says they do not buy so take them out yourself

Has anyone sold any gemset jewellery anywhere?

    Thanks x
