Selling our old gold

  • Hi, I've done exactly that sent my jewellery off to Money4GoldUK and returned their cheque on the very same day of receiving it along with a covering letter. I looked on their website entered my number to track, Status History read: - Hold 7 December 09, Definite Return 8 December 09. Now I understand this to mean that my gold has been dispatched to me....right? Wrong. When finally I received their email response it informed me 'that the return process typically takes 10-15 days'. Nowhere in their correspondence to me or on their website do they inform/notify the return process! I have argued this point with them. Surely some legal action action can be taken against them if they fail to return?
  • Hi
I did as others mentioned on other posts. Sent money4gold on email and threatened them with trading standards - quoted various terms from their T&Cs and lo and behold - my items were back within 7 days (i think)

    Hope this works for you.

I had a few old gold items - broken or odd earrings, items no longer used etc and also quite a few sovereigns and a some samll gold bars [just 20 gram weights] I went to a coin dealer locally and received a valuation, then I went ot quite a reasonable jeweller specialising ins selling old gold items and I received offers from each.
Finally I travelled to Blackpool and went to CHARDS - they are on the internet too. I received an offer which exceeded both previous ones and a cheque within the hour for my gold. I know it may go uo and down - but I am happy that I got as good as I could a deal on the day. i can recommend the company - it looks to be fair and certainly not 'fly by night' - very established.

I have only bought gold coins of this company, so do know of them.
Still think that MSE should have a best buy/sell site for gold, same as savings A/C's best buy.

When you posted pure gold was 610 per ounce (31.1gms)
Today it is 690 per ounce, two weeks back it went to 730.
A rise of 14% is good in anybodies book, hang on to it unless you need the cash.

I have a number of gold items that I weighed on a postal scale. I took them to my local jeweller who offered me exactly half of what I had valued on Hattons website - no surprise there then. I shall be hanging on to them for a while longer. Just a thought for the people who have gold rings of sentimental value - why not have them re-made into another ring? I did this with my Grandfathers signet ring & my mothers wedding ring & now have something to pass to my grandaughter.
Thanks for all the tips & info everyone & Happy New Year!
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

What a lovely idea, I knew a lady some time ago who had a bangle made of hers, I have enough to make one I think, but how much does it cost and where do you go to get one made, thank you, I feel guilty about selling them for cash, and as you say you then get to keep them but in a different form.
    Cheers, oap

I found this thread a few days ago whilst looking for info with regards to selling old gold, after reading through I decided to go with Hatton garden, I sent my gold off on Wednesday via special delivery which they received today, (guessing because of snow) I sent 42g of 9ct gold and they paid me for 41.80g. A bit dissapointed as yesterday price was fixed at £8.14 and today it fixed at £8.01 I know its only a few pence but still, extremley happy with the service provided, would reccomend them!

There is a thread by MSE Guy, on the news report that the Office of Fair Trading may investigate the sharks in the "We want your old gold pool"
