A friend told me about this forum - that there was a bunch of people giving out the answers to The Hours competition.

What a bunch of sad losers. Is this really how you get your thrills? Showing off to others as pathetic as you?

Some of you suspect you are contributing to a piece of art! - Get real.

The funniest though are the ones who are whinging because they weren't allowed to post an answer late. ROFLAO

    Get a life.

Wow this kind of thing is newsworthy with your friends, I think you need to get out and about a bit more.

Thanks for everyone who has contributed the answers :T
    Wishing you a lucky 2023: 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

I got this reply yesterday as I wrote in to say that I had missed day 7

Interesting. Unfortunately it is not just for one player. I know others who have missed a question for various reasons, and even in my reply from them they admit to others in the same boat.
I think if a lot of people told them they may reconsider.

This is the reply I had

    Hi Eyeball Paul..
I can sympathise with your feelings on this matter - and you're not the only user to voice this idea. So I'll forward your email on to the Guardian legal team who will hopefully do as you ask.. I can't promise anything though - but I'll let you know the outcome..

    Fingers crossed!

713price, did you read the T&Cs?

    8. You may answer each Competition question as many times as you like (until the closing times explained above) until you receive a message on observer.co.uk/seethelight that you have submitted the correct answer. You may not submit the correct answer to any question more than once.

That was a genuine email, except I made two changes to it.

    Firstly I inserted "Eyeball".

Secondly, the bold is my bold. The original email is below, untouched.

    Hi,

I think I can anticipate your reply, but I shall ask anyway.

    You state the following:-

After Saturday 25 April, we will only publish one question per day, and we will take each day's question down at midnight

I, and others, thought that meant the question would be removed after 24 hours, BUT not the facility to answer the question.

Entrants who had the question and answer for a certain day, but chose to enter the following day, will now be excluded from the main prize ;-((

With the questions on the first few days, you were able to collect answers and submit together.

I think the potential number of entrants for the main prize will drop considerably because of this confusion.

Is there any chance, maybe on the last day, that you would able to unblock website, so that I and others can submit our answers.
I am not asking for the questions to be republished.

This has been a very enjoyable competition, but I am very disappointed I now have no chance of winning the main prize

    Kind regards

    Paul

  • I appreciate that, and I really don't mean to tread on anyone's toes, its just I really wouldn't think that they would budge on this. The rules are clear enough I think, and I'm sure they are busy people, so I just wouldn't expect anyone to get anything more than the response that kohsamuil14 posted earlier.

Also, sorry but I was wondering why Damien Hirst's name is spelt wrong

That's a good question - worth asking again - why IS Damien Hirst's name spelt wrong by the representative of The Guardian's competition?

    From The Urban Dictionary

    1. grauniad
The Grauniad is a nickname for the UK national newpaper, the Guardian, because of a now ill-founded reputation for typos. The name was given to it by the satirical magazine Private Eye.
  • Yeah I'm aware the Guardian are typo maniacs, but it isn't going to be the same people writing/editing/proofing the paper and responding to competition emails.
The whole thing just seems a bit fishy to me, the unlikeliness of it & its tone, it isn't just the 'typo' that concerns me...

I totally agree. While they may be guilty of typo's regularly, I hardly think they'd do that to a person's name OR in an email sent out in regard to a competition. Their error's are in the paper - that's where they remain.
