I think you are very probably correct on this one, as without installing some sort of plug-in, there isn't any other way to really identify your PC, other than by IP.
There is. Apart from IP address, websites also know your Broswer and Operating System.

Egg Money manager doesnt seem to work with the new system for the moment. Hopefully they will update it soon.
  • finally managed to speak to a&l. people couldn't get through yesterday because they were innudated with calls. people couldn't log on because of a problem with the server. a&l pulled off staff from back processing dept to answer calls. things are still busy but it's easier to get through today. they are compiling a list of all queries/concerns but their main focus yesterday was getting the server up and running. is amyone with aol? what is your experience of a&l website?

I got the same problem and you can't send them a secure email message like with some other banks. So we have to pay for a phone call to alert them of their inadequacies? I don't think so.

You can send them a secure message - click on 'Help' at the top of the page, then 'Contact Us' and then 'Other' and you click on the email address to get a secure messaging popup.

I just used this to let them know how annoying the payee list is!

Well in my opinion it has made it even slower than it was before and I didn't think that was possible. It took me 5 mins to get to the image stage, then after getting through all that I click on my current a/c and after several clicks and several minutes of nothing I gave up. A&L internet banking is the reason I moved my main account to First Direct.

i'm with you we have just started the process of moving to First Direct as well i'm sick of A&L and is Crap service. BTW if you put 141 in front of your number you can still by pass the 0845 number.

Can't wait to close the account

The new system DEFINITELY needs more testing. Did they not have a full beta trial? (I work in IT testing...). So far, it's kicked me off the server, given me an error message when I transferred money from one account to another but then processed the transfer anyway - after I'd tried the transfer again so I had to reverse it, and removed the agreed overdraft limit from one of my accounts. Plus you can't scale the column widths any more so I can't fit a whole month's transactions without scrolling for miles. I also used the secure help email address to tell them to pull their socks up - I'm not paying to call an 0845 number to help them sort out problems any tester worth their salt would have picked up in half an hour. Back to the drawing board A+L - you need to spend some of your advertising budget on your IT systems.
Before you criticise a man, walk a mile in his shoes. Then, when you do criticise him, you're a mile away and you have his shoes.

I am with AOL but use Firefox to access the site.

No problems first time I used it, used it this morning, no problems at all.

Nice and fast, and I have no problem with it at all. I think it's good that they've introduced more security.

As in true MSE style, everyone comes on here and starts moaning about it.

You need to get out a bit more....not including Dagobert obviously.

The only point I agree with is the deleting people you pay to. They need to change that.

Perhaps you guys should vote with your collective mice and join a proper internet/telephone bank like First Direct.
O yes and when you ring them you get straight onto a human being, which is nice.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
