Unfortunately the anti breeding brigade do tend to shout down such posts only advocating getting pets from rescues and implying all breeders are devils spawn adding to the problem of dogs in rescues

We are all entitled to our own opinion - I don't see why that is 'shouting down' suki
I do think its worth letting people know that there are more options than just buying a pup from a breeder though...0 -
I give up - heres the board - ask martin to change the naaame to "advocating rescue only" or something.
Yet another poster you have chased off - hats off to you!!!0 -
I do advocate rescue, but you dont have to... it is inevitable that on here there will be many different opinions, shaped by people's own experiences and viewpoints.
I thought Raksha's post was very useful, and I think you have the same issues with puppy farming as I do, going by your comments on the last page of this thread...
Incidentally, although I do think people should consider whether a pup is really right for them, (after all a lot of pups end up in rescue when people realise the reality is very different to the 'andrex puppy' fantasy) I hope that people will choose their breeders carefully if they do decide to buy a pup.
Every time someone comes on here asking about getting a puppy I do point them in the direction of going about frinding a respnsible breeder, advising that they keep away from small adds and go via breed clubs and giving tips on how to pick a good breeder

...if you look back at post #5 I posted a factsheet on what to look for when buying a pup...
- anyway, I hope the OP finds the right pup or dog for him, and it all works out - any news downs?0 -
You THINK?
Ive been posting to this board for 4 years and have always done my best to educate people about where there pups are coming from. I have never minced my words when pointing out that small adds and pet sho bought dogs are supporting puppy farmers. I have also sone my best to show the difference in what a reputable breeder will do compared to what we call a back yard breeder.
And you just think. Just shows how much you read of other peoples post when they dont scream out "Go to a rescue"
And yes people do make mistakes when buying pups - we are humans after all. But thats why I always advocate a reputable breeder, A reputable breeder knows her breed and knows what sort of family it will best be placed. You know a reputable breeder will interview you and the whole family before they will let you even see their pups. A reputable breeder will also do their best to match you with the pup most suited to you, (No point giving a gobby stubbon cocker to a first time owner) Reputable breeders do as much back ground checking as rescues and offer the same protection - if it doesnt work out they will take the pup back
But at the end of the day who are we on here to say who is or is not suited to have a pup? Even the Op of this thread has been told in no uncertain terms that " pups are not for new dog owners" !!!! Like who made that rule up?
its my final post. You just keep telling people how to run their lives and how to do things your way. You obviously are the best dog owner on here and know everything and anything and anyone else who posts here is obviously so wrong0 -
Not at all, I am sorry if my terminology bothered you, when I said 'I think' there was no offence intended.
You clearly have more experience of buying from breeders than I do, so you are able to comment from that angle. Fair enough.
Its not what I would do, so I can only comment from my own viewpoint, and yes, I do advocate rescue.
Personally I find it intolerable that people have such a throwaway attitude towards dogs, and that as a result, so many of the pups that people so desperately wanted end up unwanted and discarded before they are a year old.0 -

I find that offensive and untrue....My puppy was from a small ad in my local paper and cost £25. This was to help cover her injections and a small bag of puppy food she was weaned onto.
Suddenly now I'm supporting puppy farms.'' A man who defends himself, has a fool for a client''0 -
suki1964, please don't stop posting on this board - there are people out there who need a balanced, experienced opinion. As you've already pointed out foreign correspondent only thinks she knows it all - quite patently, from her posts, she doesn't . She does, however, enjoy chasing people off these boards - don't give her the satisfaction.
Unfortunately, rescue seems to attract these interfering, old busybodies who have relatively little hands on experience, but a hugely inflated "holier-than-thou" attitude towards everyone else ."Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718

I feel like I should now be the one claiming victimisation and stomping off...
I do not enjoy 'chasing people off these boards' at all - in fact, I think that a whole variety of opinions and experience is really important. Its a shame that some people get upset when a view which differs from theirs is expressed, however politely.
...there really is no need for rudeness!0 -

Who is claiming victimisation and stomping off?? (Interesting terminology by the way - soooo not inflammatory).
This is not the first time (nor the second, or even third....) these charges have been levelled against you and you always try to come across so surprised (not). What was the Ted Hutchinson thing again?
Interesting to note that whilst you are telling people to go and rescue these millions of unwanted dogs, you have one, single, small rescue. I have noticed all the mealy mouthed platitudes like "Oh! If I had room/time, etc, etc, I would take him/her" or "He/she is so lovely/cute, I am so tempted". Fact remains that you don't really put yourself out particularly - just lecture others on what they should be doing.
On more than one occasion, in different threads, I have said that there is room on these boards for both sides (pedigree x rescue) to help with peoples questions. Without exception you have totally ignored that. I have received pm's from people who have been really hurt by your nastiness towards them. Well done!"Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718

So they decided to PM you, but not to report to abuse? Can't have been that hurt then. I've never seen FC be nasty to anyone yet, yes people may not like or agree with what she says but that doesn't mean she's been or is nasty. I see others turning around what people say, or flagging up posts & b1tching about people's opinions, but if I don't like it i'd talk to abuse not b1tch to others. I assume you encouraged them to report the nastiness to abuse?0
