    Good evening everyone :hello:

Happy birthday to Floss and Mrs MW :bdaycake:

I'm exhausted after the clocks going forward. It's a bit like jet lag . Ok, so maybe it wasn't very wise going on a hen do at the weekend and ending up having my breakfast at 12.30pm! At least it's only 3 working days until the end of term. :j :j Then I get two whole, blissful weeks off.

I hope that they ARE semi-blissful. I'll be going to see my parents, including trying to cheer my mum up. She's very tearful everytime she talks about her hair. She's got her scarves being worn and can't wait until her scalp is less sensitive so that she can wear her wig.

DH was a star and cleaned the bathroom AND my car. Over the holiday, I've got stacks of paperwork to sort out and no doubt plenty of recycling... We'll see how that goes...

Better go and do some school work. Hope you're all ok.

  • Evening all!

Hugs to all who need/want them and congrats to Candygirl and WS' little bear.

Tried to post last night but just couldn't get connected icon9.gif

Picked up the car again this morning and finally paid the bill - £287 plus shrapnel for a full service, two sections of exhaust pipe, a new boot handle and VAT. The exhaust was very necessary - they showed me what they had replaced  - I'm surprised that the exhaust had stayed on the car cos you could get your hand in the hole! Still, I had the money put away in a savings pot and it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be.

Having paid for the car, I did my accounts this evening - the picture is a bit grim. Although the two big things had been saved for and my groceries challenge came in under budget by 31p, there were a few too many "wants" rather than "needs". So tightening of the belt in April and more OS to save the pennies.

As usual on a weekday, OS has been washing the pots, cooking tea and preparing tomorrow's packed lunch. Have already started my shopping lists for my first April grocery shop and planning to do some batch cooking to fill up the freezer - now its been defrosted, there's a lot more space in it! I know its only Tuesday, but roll on the weekend!

Now that the weather's finally picking up (fingers crossed) and I've lost weight since last summer, I need to sort out the wardrobe, so that needs to go on my list of jobs.

Anyway, will stop wittering and get on.

    Good night, sleep tight.

    Evening all

Hope you have all had a good day and that those who are feeling under the weather are improving.

Mixed day here, made a lovely chicken curry for tea with rice and naan, hm cherry cake for afters.

However, had 2 disasters with my breadmaker today - both wholemeal loaves. I got the bm last week and have happily made 4 really good loaves (2 of them wholemeal) and then today made a wholemeal one that sunk in the middle and seemed doughy in the middle. Tried again with less water and it came out unrisen and like a brick! Have just made a white loaf which has come out fine so I know that the machine is ok but haven't got a clue what I did wrong. I am a bit wary of trying wholemeal again now in case I waste more ingredients, although that is our favourite. Ah well I suppose I will have to try again tomorrow.

Other than that not much OS today, up to date with most of jobs at home at mo (won't last)

Well have a good evening all and sleep well

    xxx

Evening everyone. Hope you are all well and hugs to anyone who needs them.

Had a very busy day at work, then had to go for a blood test afterwork and went food shopping. Since I have got home we took dogs for a walk, made HM pizza which is currently in the oven. Going to sit and relax for rest of the evening and watch Coleen's Real Women! I like that programme!!

Enjoy the rest of the evening, well whats left of it!!

Well we have the keys and have started to move our stuff. :j :j I was disappointed that the house had not been cleaned and we have found a long list of things that need seeing to. OH removed 57 screws nails or pins from the walls, we even found 2 screws in the wall under the curtains in the back bedroom.

I had to set to and clean the cupboards in the kitchen, inside and out, it was very obvious that whoever lived there did not have the same standards as I do. I have sent a list of 17 things the agents have to look at. We found a cupboard in the bedroom had been nailed shut, all it needed was a new magnetic catch!!! The cupboard was full of cable which came in through the wall, heaven knows what that is for but doubtless we will find out in time.

I drew the curtains in the front bedroom and the fitting disintegrated,:D when I opened the cooker filter up see what it was like, the filter fell out and chipped the enamel on the hob, it looks as though it has never ever been cleaned.  The oven, well lets put it this way, no way am I cooking in it until it has been cleaned. It needs a new seal for the glass door, the inside of the door is running with grease and the shelves…well lets just say I think it might be a case of new ones. No instructions with it, will have to look on the internet and see if I can find them, it’s a schriber, didn’t know they made ovens!!!

Once I had cleaned the cupboards inside and out we were able to get quite a bit of the stuff put away. I put on the fridge and freezer to allow them to do their thing. We had a problem with the gas, could not get any hot water. Tried the rings, no gas, some idiot had switched the gas off…..hey ho.:D :D

One bright note, the new bed arrived,  we did not get away from the house until well after 6pm, so I cooked fish and chips. Tomorrow we are having cold chicken and salad…….I have put our bed on freecycle and it looks as though it will go, so we could be sleeping at the house after the weekend………there will be some other stuff to go as well…..with the fitted wardrobes OH’s chest will have to go at the end of the bed instead of him using it at the side of his bed, so the TV will stand on it………I have a glass table which I think will fit ok at his side of the bed. I may buy another one later for my side…….depends on the state of our finances, which have taken a battering over the past few weeks.

Watch this space. One thing I do know, I have to tone the yellow in the kitchen, it’s a bit in the face……….need some advice on colour washing with a cream or something…………….

Needless to say I an knackered..................should not have any trouble sleeping tonight:T :T

Just a quick one tonight - just waiting for MrEH to finish ironing his shirts and then we have to get down to some packing! The camera gear is all spread out on the bed so at the very least we have to get that sorted into our kit bags tonight.

Happy birthday to those celebrating, and commiserations to those under the weather.

Csarina so pleased for you that you have the keys at last! Made me smile you saying about having to tone down some paintwork - when we viewed our flat the couple selling it made a big thing of saying that they couldn't understand people who bought a place and then immediately redecorated...."Why would you buy a place if you didn't like what it looked like?!" - obviously we agreed..... ..... on the saturday afternoon after we moved in we were just in the middle of painting over the DARK GREEN paint on the tiles in the kitchen when they walked past.......we got ever such a dirty look!! Honestly though - dark green tiles and lighter green walls -more like a victorian public convenience than a kitchen! :rotfl:

I suspect I won't get the time to get on here tomorrow night, and we're off on Thursday so will no doubt speak to you again once we're back......Happy birthdays and anniversary's to all those who are celebrating in the next few weeks. I'm aiming to update my blog while we're away so please do feel free to have a look - the address is in my profile I hope! (((((hugs))))) to all - take care of yourselves! Byeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

    Hello everybody,

Can't get my head around the time since it changed at the weekend, but at least dinner is in the oven.

Happy birthday Floss and Mrs MW:bdaycake: :bdaycake:

Mild here today, not very sunny most of the time, but pleasant all the same.

Went to yoga class this pm, didn't do much moving around but will get into it later I think....went to see my doctor this morning about the palpitations and the b**ger has reduced his days at the surgery to ONE every week....Monday, so thought it better not to do too much until I get the palpitations checked out....wanted to talk to him about my meds too so there wasn't much point in going to the other doctor...I'd still be there telling him my history so will be there at 6am next Monday....they don't do appointments, first come first served which works quite well.

Hugs to everyone with teenagers who should be studying and won't...had that with two of my 3 boys, younger one left school at 16 but was lucky enough to get an apprenticeship so at least has a bit of paper to go with his Junior Cert...could have killed him at the time as he is very clever, but he has never been out of work in the fourteen years since and seems to earn a lot of money.

Sorry to hear that so many people are not feeling at all well, hopefully the better weather will help to improve spirits.

Hugs to all in need or want

Right letting off STEAM now..... Tin hats on everyone mind the falling debris!

DS1 is in final year of school and he has left all his GCSE coursework until the last minute. I've nagged and nagged him to get on and do it but like the typical teenager he thinks its all under control. He is off school today as he was ill during the night, he's just rung me at work to say his teacher has phoned him and said if his coursework isn't in by today he will fail this particular course (DT). Well I let off some steam at him, and told him to et his finger out and do it and then go in this afternoon and hand it in. I keep using myself and DH as a reminder of what life will be like if he doesn't put the effort in and he says he donesn't want to be hard up like us etc etc but it still doesn't seem to be enough to get him to do anything. I've taken away his xbox, and tv and pc but as he shares a roon with his younger brother i can't do this for long as there is nowhere else in the house to set these up for DS2 to play on. I am fuming away here, I know teenagers are hardwork, but this is soul destroying - I get so frustrated with him it leaves me in tears.

My son was the same, made no effort just couldn't be bothered, left school with only one exam pass. I remember being so worried about what would become of him.
He dossed around for a year, had a couple of dead end jobs, then started a plastering course at the local college. He's a natural and has almost completed his third year now. Not a lot of jobs around at the moment so he's thinking about doing a bricklaying course next, hopefully things might have improved by the time he finishes. Some kids just aren't interested in school, and they don't always know what they want to do with their lives but are being asked to make decisions and choices. I'm sure your son will be fine, there are options even for kids with poor exam results, with lots of college courses available to all. Wishing him good luck.

Well if its any help to both of you- I used to be the complete opposite- I worked myself mad while at school, all-nighters as they were named, would happen regularly as I wanted my work to be perfect and as good as it could be. The result? I did well in school. The side effect? a life long mental heath problem. Not so good. And when I had finished flying through school, messing up my A-levels, (I got that ill) I was clueless as to what to do with my life. Followed the heard to Uni, did well, but still lost what I really wanted at the end of it- all I really wanted was to achieve and once I had done that, I was lost again....got ill again with the stress inbetween during and after. Life isn't always about achieveing, and findin out who you are does count for alot. If your children care about where they are heading, that wont go away, one day it will kick into action, but it is much better if its at thier own pace. Then they are less likely to wake up one day and think "so whose life is it anyway".
Know you worry as parents - its natural and I'm not trying to have a go, but don't forget that being the richest man in the graveyard is never the best life goal.
