Well, it's ok as far as I can see, but I'm a new Firefox user, and given your vast techie knowledge, you'll know more about the ins and outs of it than I do! I'm on version 3, btw! ;)

Where you had to IMPORT your favs over
Ive gone down the route of using the GOOGLE TOOLBAR

Simply put, I can sign onto any computer in the world and sign into google and all favourites will already be there

Depends on your screen as well but I always CUSTOMISE firefox to show SMALL icons and have the 'open a new tab' button ready at the top too

I'm glad you've replied again, aliEnRIK, your help is invaluable. Obviously, as a new user, I keep finding new things that need answering, but I don't want to get on your nerves! ;)

I hope you don't mind a few more queries. I know that Firefox is more secrue that IE, but when I click on an unfamiliar site, is the NoScript setting "Scripts partially allowed" the right one, to be safe enough to not let nasty scripts in? Also, please can you tell me how to make the screen text a bit bigger and how to specify "search UK sites only" on google? (I've tried to find out myself, but can't find a way)!

I followed your instructions yesterday and imported my faves. It placed them in the bookmarks menu at the bottom of the favourites list, in a file marked "From Internet Explorer".

I added some snazzier looking icons too, and also got the "add tab" button; and the "switch to IE" one - and it all looks great! Not sure how to make the icons smaller, though. I've only got a 15in flatscreen.

RIGHT click next to 'help' and you can CUSTOMISE from there

So long as your a safe surfer then any new site you goto ~ just see how it is. If it doesnt work as it should then click to ALLOW it.
Its more for stopping anything dodgy from getting onto your computer if for example a site was HACKED. Or you may be sent a dodgy link from someone. Even if you were taken to a site that had a 'drive by' virus on it, then NOSCRIPT would prevent it from running
Just RIGHT click the S symbol (bottom right)
You should NEVER 'allow scripts globally'. ALLOW all sites your happy with (this one for example). Any your NOT sure about then just TEMPORARILY allow them to see how it goes
Dont worry about it too much :)

The trojan that EI7 let in was from a site that I hadn't used before, and looked ok. It was a blind retailer and I was requesting free swatches of fabric. All was ok until I clicked on the fourth page (home; type of fabric; colour; request free sample) then the hacker made the danger apparent with his/her own "Hack" page!

After that experience, I'm concerned that I wouldn't know if a new site was safe or not, even if it seemed ok at first.

I find that with some sites, if they are forbidden by NoScript, they show rows of text only, which is why I set it at partially allowed. Just to clarify - if a site has a "drive by" virus or if it was hacked, then if NoScript is set at "partially allow" will it stop it? Thanks.

when it says scripts are 'partially allowed', it means that some scripts ON THAT PAGE are being blocked whilst others are allowed. (Right click it to see which are allowed and which are not)

So long as the script itself that has the virus is blocked then youll be fine

In general ~ anything thats offered for 'free' tends to come 'at a price'

Ha, ha, that's a bit cynical of you aliEnRIK!

As a regular frequenter of the freebies board, I find that some free things (and their associated websites) come with strings attached - but, luckily most don't!

And in the "real" world, a stranger in the street gave me a gift today - at no cost! ;)
