Hello dellboy102

I'll move your thread to the 'In my home' board and merge it with the existing thread 'Getting rid of rats/mice'.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

I'm fairly sure the ultrasonic repellers don't do anything, well the one we had didn't seem to. Best bet is to seal up any small gaps in kitchen units, skirtingboard floorboards etc and put some traps or poison down. If you've seen 1 mouse you've got at least 10.

apparantly this one uses both ultrasonic and Electro-Magnetic Interference whatever that means, just a bit hesitant about spending £30 on something that may not work

Was it this same exact one or just an ultrasonic one?

I've already ordered it now!

Hi, just to let you know, we had a serious mouse problem before christmas, forst spotted one in the kitchen, then they kept popping up everywhere, especailly in the evenings when we were watching tv!
They even got onto the worktop and ate away at a loaf of bread! yuk!
They were avoiding the traps, and didnt like the idea of poison and finding dead mice weeks after the event! Also, was concerned that even if we killed them, more would keep invading us from other flats in the block.
Bought a electic mouse repeller, left it plugged in for a week whilst we were away (after cleaning everywhere scrupulously, putting all food in tins in a top cupboard etc) - came back, No mice, No droppings nothing! fab! two weeks later and not a sign!
It is one of the 'whole house' type repellers, which combines ultra sound with a electro magnetic field which they apparently don't like. I was sceptical, but I am very impressed! It cost about £30 but well worth it in my opinion.

Can either Foreign Correspondent or somebody else recommend a device which actually works?

Does this one really work?

We've tried rat poison but they don't appear to be eating it and we're still seeing droppings around the windowsills and in the kitchen.
• Right this may be a fairly long one.

we have had mice for almost 5 years now all down to the people who live next door but 1. they are the most scabby people you could have the misfortune of meeting and in our lovely very quiet residential street they have a MASSIVE mdf gate and fench type home made thing inside their huge great trees (this is a small road with terraced houses). the thing is they rescue animals (dogs mainly) and at one point apparently environmental health said they had 15 dogs in this 3 bedroom house... we know they keep animal feed in the front garden which i presume why we are gettign mice but to be honest i am sick and tired of it now - they dont go in their house as they also have a whole host of cats!! i am honestly at the end of my tether now and ready for some serious action...

we have had EH involved all this time and they say all they can do is keep coming out to rid us of the vermin - even though they are sure thats where it is coming from they cant force their way onto the neighbours property as it breaches their rights - what the **** what about our human rights for gods sake - beggars belife isn't it. also when it is hot outside the stench that comes from that front garden is unbearable, the people who live between us cant even open their windows due to the smell

what can i do now? i am going to ring the rspca even though she is rescuing these animals surely its not good to have so many in a small confined space - none of them get walked out and if they are storing animal feeds (horse feed in perticular) then it should be stored properly - they were told this before
i will also phone back to the council on monday morning get the mouse man back out AGAIN - feels more like a family friend now lol

please help me - any ideas welcome

I would say you have a case against your neighbours, and I would take issue with them leaving animal feed laying around their garden - I'm an EHO, by the way.

To me, I'd take action against them under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, Section 80, Nuisance provisions (read here). My interpretation of what you've posted is that their activities are spoiling your enjoyment of your property, not to mention encouragement of vermin - possibly use the Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 1949. It would also benefit your case should you note an odour coming from their property and entering your living space - I'd imagine this is a strong possibility!

However, I would stress that in my experience, only getting one side of the story is never enough to form opinion - so bear that in mind please.

That said, given the issues you're experiencing appear to be related to your neighbour's activities and storage of feedstuffs, I'd pursue this issue with EH, and if necessary, take it to the team leader until you get satisfaction.

There may be another avenue you could take regards your neighbour's 'animal farm' situation...

They obviously bought this property as a private dwelling, but appear to be using it for a different undertaking - I'd therefore approach the Planning Dept about that - but this may be a long shot.

Hope this helps.

dellboy102 I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know if the Rat and Mouse Repeller works.

Thanks!

Hi, ok I definitely will get back to you, I know exactly how you feel :)

I've used it for about 20 days and so far I haven't seen any mice, I'll have to ask around the house when everyone gets back if they've seen any but so far I think its been working.

I'm not 100% because last time we had mice we caught about 3 and thought they were all gone but 3 weeks later we spotted some more, not sure if these were a new batch or the same ones.

Will post an update surely, I too am eager to find out because my 30 day money back warranty will expire

Edit - Whoops, guess my money back warranty has already expired!
