Debate House Prices
In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non MoneySaving matters are no longer permitted. This includes wider debates about general house prices, the economy and politics. As a result, we have taken the decision to keep this board permanently closed, but it remains viewable for users who may find some useful information in it. Thank you for your understanding.

You know, I could be wrong here, but I'm doubt that all this arguing (and sockpuppetaccuseteering) will stop Martin from moving the board."I can hear you whisperin', children, so I know you're down there. I can feel myself gettin' awful mad. I'm out of patience, children. I'm coming to find you now." - Harry Powell, Night of the Hunter, 1955.0

I have to say if this thread is any evidence of the rest of the forum. I think deleting it rather than moving it is the right option.
There's no point in having something this vitriolic and I certainly dont want it in the core MoneySaving boards.Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

There are many people with money on this particular forum Martin.

No but this board brilliantly captures all sides of the debate.
Any sesible reader can read thousands of different posts and then MAKE UP THEIR OWN MIND WHAT to do.
We all provide info only. It is up to the readers what to do with it.
btw - Dan I think your comment against the bears is really SNIDE.
Capturing both sides of the debate is the problem with this board. If anyone had a view other then house prices would crash less then 50% they would get insulted and quite often bullied off the forum, lead by !!!!!!? and CarolT. A few members have stood up to the bully's over the last year or so, which they didn't like one little bit and has been the cause for most the arguments.
At the end of the day 'pure money' is for financial advice, be it Credit Cards, Mortgages, Pensions, Debts or House Buying/Selling. This board is for discussion, so how does it fit in 'pure money'?0 -

I've been a lurker on this board for at least two years and read it almost every day, so I feel I'm qualified to give my opinion even though I'm not a frequent poster.
I think pulling this board away from Pure Money would be a mistake, not because it isn't discussion (because it is) but because the information on it is so relevant to the other boards in Pure Money, and because it covers a range of extremely important topics that should be in the forefront of Money Saving thought and practice rather than being relegated to the position of inconsequential chat. Personally, I think of this board as the frame through which all of the other Pure Money boards should be viewed - it offers a wider context for the factual advice threads on the other boards in the section.
I do think it should be clearly labelled as a discussion or theory board, but I also think that its place is here, with all of the other boards covering aspects of pure money.
As for cliques, this board does seem cliquey to me, but surely that's because it has a loyal following of frequent posters? They certainly haven't put me off of the idea of posting, unlike other sites like HPC, and I think they offer a valuable service in that they keep the place ticking over until something really interesting comes along and infrequent posters come out of the woodwork. I think the name-calling and trolling can be a bit of a problem, but given how heated the discussions get on here, I'd be surprised if that could be avoided entirely, though it'd be nice if they could keep it to one thread.0 -

The problem with this is that we're be right back where we started and all this rubbish posted in the excellent house buying, renting and selling board.0 -
i have to agree with this comment lol
Yes, but the economic subjects that are thrashed out here can lead to some strong opinions and shared knowledge, and through it we learn.
You offer very little towards that as you are a guide who seems to have more interest in competitions, which is an entirely different focus.
Martin would be cutting himself off from a wealthy demographic by either moving but especially were he to delete this forum. I would take my custom elsewhere and maybe that would be the same for others who post or just visit or are recommended to come here. There has been one newbie with money recommended to visit here posting on this thread.0 -
I think its a mistake and I disagree with views likethere is a preponderance of uber negativity, which in no way reflects the reality.
If its threads based on 'mad max' doom hyperbole then sure it should be under the general discussion as its not helpful to people on money decisions made
Theres a number of recent events that have never happened before in british history that require a free form discussion of possibilities.
There are no experts on the future and how negative or positive it might be
But it doesn't really matter where the board is I guess, I just dont think the move is necessary or helpful particularly0
