Debate House Prices
In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non MoneySaving matters are no longer permitted. This includes wider debates about general house prices, the economy and politics. As a result, we have taken the decision to keep this board permanently closed, but it remains viewable for users who may find some useful information in it. Thank you for your understanding.

I think the mods should be changed to people who are regular contributors to this board and agree that Generali and SingleSue (if she has time with her studies) would make good mods.
I don't follow threads into the Arms.
I am in agreement with you re Generali but not Sue. My experience of Sue's contributions is that she often takes things posted very personally when that was not the intention of the poster and it would appear that others have noted this too, judging by some of the comments in the earlier part of this thread. (Btw, nothing against you Sue, just a personal observation.)
To be a mod you need to have a thick skin to not let the stuff others say get to you personally whilst also being able to maintain a fine balance of moderation between freedom of speech and taking the p!ss. If you're too heavy-handed with the modding then you'll cause more problems than you'll solve and being too lax means WW3 erupts and all you get is insult-trading. My personal opinion as an admin of one site and a mod on another, is that this forum has suffered a lot of the latter recently and the mods - sorry, 'board guides' - should have stepped in to dish out a few warnings to certain members and slipped in the odd neutral comment on some of the more rowdy threads telling people to calm down and 'attack the post, not the poster' etc. There's nothing wrong with a good heated debate and they can be very enjoyable if people can refrain from hurling insults at the poster because of their opinions/beliefs.
My own recommendation for an 'active' mod which is also a regular poster would be PasturesNew. She doesn't take anything personally, is here 24/7 and can easily handle any flak anyone should dare to dish out.

but at the end of the day martin owns this site, it is his to do what he likes with it. no-one pays to use this site and to be honest i think its fair that martin consults people on these issues, he doesnt have to does he?
It is in his best interests to consult though.
Ive benefited from some of the offers on MSE but often MSE will have received a some affiliate commission back in return.
It is not in Martin's interests to his use power unwisely and throw everyone off balance without consulting. As a successful businessman he is smart enough to know that. Proven by his approach.
We might not all be as successful as Martin but this forum has many users who are not wading in debt but are savers, with higher levels of disposable income to spend.
House Prices, the Economy & Recession also draws in to MSE readers with money from other external sites.0 -
No worries Snooze.....
I can actually be unsensitive and neutral...I have to in my role as owner and administrator of my own site, even though my loyalties put to the test, I always ensure I am completely neutral.
What you see of me here, is someone who has not got that responsibility, so I can be myself.
Actually I am quite relieved you posted that! I felt a little awkward trying to find reasons to wriggle out of it.
Thanks for the nomination Miss Moneypenny but I really wouldn't have the time with my studies, the children and my already very heavy online responsibilities. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

I'm in favour of moving the board even though I wouldn't otherwise visit the Moneysavers Arms.
No one can seek advice here without inviting ridicule or venom and they ought to be able to do so. It's becoming like HPC really.0 -

lostinrates wrote: »Its interesting cliques are so clearly seen. I think there are cliques through out the site
I would agree with you here lostinrates.
On many a forum, wherever there are regular posters with common interests that tends to happen. I suppose it's how that particular clique interacts with others that determines whether it is welcomed or not.
I recall on the OS board a while ago some posters felt there was a clique that made them feel unwelcome and yet regular posters didn't feel that was the case, so I would also agree that it is interesting how clearly others see these cliques. There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. It's probarly the most pointless board on MSE, so maybe it should be closed down altogther. The losers can go to HPC.co.uk instead.
That's a bit rich coming from a regular, and one who is often embedded in the very arguments that have brought the board to it's knees in the past 3 months.I'll have some cheese please, bob.0 -

I don't do that  unless you are secretly !!!!!! and I doubt that'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. What is so wrong about being positive in life instead of being so negative and wishes bad things on others?
It is you and your puppets resorting to name calling and general bullying that has brought this thread to its knees.0 -
I think I would have to agree with this.
This board is NOT the place to come for sound advice.
No but this board brilliantly captures all sides of the debate.
Any sesible reader can read thousands of different posts and then MAKE UP THEIR OWN MIND WHAT to do.
We all provide info only. It is up to the readers what to do with it.
btw - Dan I think your comment against people with different views to yours is really SNIDE.0
