Debate House Prices
In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non MoneySaving matters are no longer permitted. This includes wider debates about general house prices, the economy and politics. As a result, we have taken the decision to keep this board permanently closed, but it remains viewable for users who may find some useful information in it. Thank you for your understanding.

IIRC the boards were split after very soon after that and all was well for some time. Since then, however, the discussions do seem to have deteriorated, and many have become unreadable due to slanging match accusations of people using more than one username etc. I have felt several times that there was a need for a board guide to intervene and give a few gentle warnings, but there was no sign of this happening. As a consequence I do not visit the site as a whole as much as I used to, as this was my favourite area. I am sorry to have to say this, but I do not understand why we have board guides who don't appear to be interested in joining the discussions on the board they are supposed to look after. Such a contrast to the Board Guides on the Old Style board.
I think having board guides who are 'part' of the board would be really helpful. But very difficult. They can't manufacture interest, and |I'm not sure how many other volunteers there would be0 -
Unfortunately,
While martin has saved people alot of money, Martin isnt a charity case this website, his logo, image and everything about him is subtly geared toward making a living.
And who'd blame him? He gets paid saving people money... and has saved me a few bob too.
BUT.....
The house prices/economy section does not offer any avenue to spin him money at all.... it is just a mini -HPC with less looneys.
It will be moved and won't stay in its current place. I dont venture here too often, content making as much cash as I can during the recession to try and safeguard my own personal safety than discuss the inevitable crash/recession/armageddon etc. I do pop in time to time to read some funny threads though...
My most visited sub-forums are House prices, House buying, Discount vouchers (coupons and tesco points area) and oddly DFW... (because its like entering a fantasy world were borrowing obsene amounts of money and harsh terms like bankruptcy are thrown around with words such as 'itll be ok', 'its not your fault', '/hugz'
Please leave this forum near DFW, House buying0 -
BRILLIANT!!!!
This is exactly what I suggested in the MSE design thread. This is purely a discussion board, there is never any Money Saving advice in here apart from the terse 'Dont buy a house - there I saved you £100k!!!"
This board and the loonies held within, should be moved off to DT, though I do feel sorry about the poor guys in Discussion Time
Isnt Democracy a wonderful thing??
I think its a sensible compromise to trial a diaries area. Im sure that once people get used to it, they'll prefer it.
What about the HPC board, can we get rid of that or at least move it to the Arms or to Discussion Time, perhaps as a sub-board? Newbies who are worried about reposessions, losing their jobs or who are struggling to pay their mortgages are attracted by the board title and venture in there for help/advice and are then met with a wall of abuse from 'holier than thou' HPC nutters who should have no place within MSE. It gives a poor impression of MSE and I would imagine that many newbies leave and never come back, taking their problems with them, because of the reception they receive in that forum. Most of the regular/decent MSE users call it the 'ghetto' and don't venture in there.0 -

I agree to a degree - but you can't really compare the two. Here there is a very confrontational attitude, owing to the subject matter - bears v bulls, etc - it would take an exceptionally tactful moderator not to be seen as favouring one side over the other, thus leading to ill-feeling. There is clearly nothing equivalent on Old Style, as discussions of whether or not to freeze sprouts just doesn't cause the same friction.
Maybe if sprouts cost hundreds of thousands of pounds, and people put their life-savings plus borrowed up to 5 times their gross annual earnings to buy them, the same would apply there.0 -
The confrontation was created by !!!!!! and you carolt. Anyone who disagreed with you was targetted. You are reaping what you sowed. I hoep you enjoy the obscurity in the MoneySaversArmes
I've never been so happy as I am today!!Just a quick post to register my 'tuppence...
I think splitting the DFW dairies into their own board is a great idea, they're not being banned, they're just being moved into a sub-board and any new posts will show up as though they're in the DFW board when you are on the initial forum page. It's not really any sort of hardship to click on the 'DFW Diary' sub-board link from inside the DFW board surely?
I think creating a new Bankruptcy board is a great idea. There are different strategies from being a DFW and being a BR and there has been friction between these two camps in the past.
I agree with everyone else that moving the Pensions board out of Pure money is a mistake. Final Salary pensions are a thing of the past, most people will have Money Purchase pensions that have the same investment options as S&S ISAs. Pensions should therefore be moved into a Savings, Investments and Pensions board.
I think we have too many separate Housing related boards. Currently we have Mortgage Free Wannabe, Mortgages & Endowments, House Buying, Renting and Selling, House Prices - Economy & Recession. These should be sub-boards under a general "Property" or "Housing" board.
In fact, the House Prices, Economy & Recession board should be moved completely out of MSE and onto the House Price Crash website where it belongs. Thats where most of the posters seem to come from. This board attracts more of the strangest, most rude and most disruptive posters than the rest of the MSE boards put together. It has no Money Saving aspect (apart from the trite 'We save you money because we stop you buying a house in a falling market' comment the regulars serve up). The MSE forums are intended for like-minded people who want to share financial tips or to learn how to manage their finances better, it does not exist as a place to go to argue with strangers, to make thinly disguised racist comments about immigrants (as often happens, especially when the jobless figures are released**) or to put people down because they're unfortunate enough to be in negative equity, to be reposessed or to be struggling to pay their mortgage.
If there was one change you could make to the MSE forums that would improve it, removing that particular board would be it! If people want to discuss general topics such as the economy then they can do it in the Moneysaving Arms or in Discussion Time.
** thinly disguised racist posts such as this one: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=15364250 -

Hell, what a horrible life you must have.
Go kite surfing or mountain biking or visit the National Gallery or something. Pull yourself together anyway.0 -
We should have vote on it. But for obvious reasons chucky , dan and pickles should be only be allowed to vote once
hellow ad44downey, napoleon and others. The great news is that idiots like you will vanish back under their stones when confronted by the wider audience in DT or the Arms. There will be a far greater number of contributors so idiots like you with your multiple logons wont be have such a large influence. Your 4 or 5 logons will be swamped by the 100s in DT. You'll either give up or you'll die of exhaustion trying to keep 40 or 50 logons going at once to try and maintain some sort of influence.
Goodbye add44downey, you loser :rotfl:0 -
