Debate House Prices
In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non MoneySaving matters are no longer permitted. This includes wider debates about general house prices, the economy and politics. As a result, we have taken the decision to keep this board permanently closed, but it remains viewable for users who may find some useful information in it. Thank you for your understanding.

well your para-phrasing is wrong isnt it. and by the way i am not a moderator but a board guide this site does not have moderators the rules about this can be read here . You will also see the note about this sites not haveing moderators on the top of every page which statesIMPORTANT! This forum isn't moderated.
If you spot a spam, illegal, offensive, racist, libellous post or PM please email [EMAIL="abuse@moneysavingexpert.com"]abuse@moneysavingexpert.com[/EMAIL]
but at the end of the day martin owns this site, it is his to do what he likes with it. no-one pays to use this site and to be honest i think its fair that martin consults people on these issues, he doesnt have to does he?
More toys are thrown out of the pram here than in the BB forums of Digital Spy, and thats saying something[strike]Debt @ LBM 04/07 £14,804[/strike]01/08 [strike]£10,472[/strike]now debt free:j

well then you need to broaden your horizons and look at all the other boards on this forum.
I found the arms when i first came here very easily, i think you will find most newbies will look at all the boards over time, and then most stick to the ones that interest them most.
And to be honest, this forum isnt pure money at all, it is mainly just discussion threads so it is best suited to where it may be moved to
no offence meant but that is honestly what i feel. i understand others might strongly feel differently and good for them they can indulge in what they prefer. but forcing people who dont like the arms discussions style to go there isnt exactly a good idea. people who feel differently would just wander elsewhere. a few less might not matter in the big scheme of things for this website, guess i can do more of other stuff outside this website then. my OH certainly will be pleased if i spend less time here!bubblesmoney :hello:0 -
we can move and delete posts and threads and nothing else.
Ok, thanks. That stuff has been happening, so I guess I was out of order saying that you don't often visit. More accurately, you visit daily and go about board guiding quietly, but your visible posts/actions here more often than not tend to be a tad contentious - the single house prices thread, the bulk dumping of threads to DT, and now the moving of the board down to the murky depths of the frontpage. Not having a dig, I get it now - you work on maintaining the board without participating probably as the content is outside your area of interest, coversely you participate in this thread (and previous ones mentioned) as it does have an effect on you and what you do here. Makes sense.
It's just a shame we don't have moderators/admin that CAN clear out multiple user accounts tbh. That alone would mean this board wouldn't have to be 'hidden' down the bottom of the main page. I'm sure 'abuse' have the power to sort this, but don't.
The board has lost a lot of quality posters recently, and I'm sure the move will see things get even worse. It's a shame, things were pretty much spot on back in the days of the old 'house prices' sub board.0 -
it will only change if people are being narrow minded and refuse to move with the board just to be stubborn.
clearly if a move was predicted to not change the board in any way, then there would be no point to it. indeed the opening post implies that the move is intended to ensure that the board receives less traffic in the form of people coming looking for advice.0 -
I'm wondering how hard it would be to set up a discussion board on this topic. I moderate another board, and would be willing to be part of a moderation team if needed, but I'm not technologically equiped enough to set a db up.
Trying to find the right fit on other boards that have been suggested to me has not been useful.

but this board is not just about house prices is it?
everyone kicked off when threads were moved as they were not to do with house prices so this board was set up so people could have discussions about the wider economy.
I for one would love for this just to be a strictly house prices board it would make life much easier.
I agree - personally, I think doozergirl's suggestion of returning house prices to house buying, and then if necessary putting the rest of the board into a 'discussion' section is the best suggestion by far.
One of the reasons I never went to places like the Money |Savers Arms is because I had (and have) very little idea what the point of them was - the name doesn't suggest discussion - possibly beer? I'm not a great pub-goer in real life, so it wouldn't have occurred to me to go and look - any more than I'd peer into lots of real-life pubs, on the offchance of having an interesting discussion with a stranger. If it was called 'discussion forum' I'd at least have had an idea of what purpose it serves. I found the name rather off-putting, actually.0 -

There used to be good, educational discussion conducted in an amiable atmosphere. Then one day we found that the board guides had steamed through, moving posts right left and centre, and causing a great deal of ill feeling. IIRC the boards were split after very soon after that and all was well for some time. Since then, however, the discussions do seem to have deteriorated, and many have become unreadable due to slanging match accusations of people using more than one username etc. I have felt several times that there was a need for a board guide to intervene and give a few gentle warnings, but there was no sign of this happening. As a consequence I do not visit the site as a whole as much as I used to, as this was my favourite area. I am sorry to have to say this, but I do not understand why we have board guides who don't appear to be interested in joining the discussions on the board they are supposed to look after. Such a contrast to the Board Guides on the Old Style board.0
