  • I had sessions with a therapist and we started on CBT, he said it had to be time limited, so that we had a set of goals to acheive . so that he could see an end result!! He wanted me to set my own projectto use the techniques on, i Wasnt well enought to contemplate any such thing, and the nature of my probs meant that at timesI was unable to even leave the house to attend the session with him. I got a letter saying he had discharged me but could continue at alater date when I felt better!! what a stupid irony, I felt that they had given up one me.

Hi LBA. I think you should simple go to your doctor and tell him exactly what you've told us here. They see plenty of people with your symptoms and there is nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed of. However, can you try to see a different doctor? You're obviously not comfortable with the one you previously saw.

Explain everything you are suffering with or dealing with at the moment - your sleep patterns, any anxiety, any feelings of being down or tearful or being unable to cope. Its not your fault you are like this and your doctor needs to help you.

All the best - hope you get on ok.
  • Therapy should be about finding a 'box' for YOU not t'other way round!CBT isn't therapy;it's trying to cram you into a little box ticked approved for work so you are on a different 'list' i.e different or no benefits v often.l'm agoraphobic & pretty ill with it & mine discharged me because l can't & won't get on a bus.plus she was about 12 LOL...

This says much about the therapist! What an attitude, sorry you met one of the 'got a goal must achieve it' lot. No wonder you felt abandoned. What was your next step?

I saw a therapist and had CBT for depression caused by several traumas. I went but never thought it would make a difference to me. Well I was wrong a year of therapy and mentally I have never felt better. The first few sessions were awful and the depression got worst. My therapist advised me to see my GP and commence anti-depressents. Anti-depressents don't resolve the problems that cause the depression but helped lift my mood to make me more receptive to the CBT. I wanted to solve all my traumas together asap but you need to work throught one thing at a time. Obviously it is very difficult and i had lots of intrusive thoughts which I wanted to avoid. However through CBT and a excellent therapist I managed to sort out the traumas. My therapist made me visulize a very untidy room, which was my head full of random painful memories. as I resolved things i was able to put the traumas in to a box. lable it aand file it. Eventually the room was tidy and the traumas dealt with. I remember the trauma but I am no longer upset by it. I can recall it and move on bceause I think very differently about things now. I used to be a real worrier and perfectionist. But CBT has taught me that worrying about stuff that may never happen is a total waste of time. Now I take each day as it comes.
          2. How did you get a year Rev? Was this NHS? What area do you live in? I have been offered 6 weeks at one place and then 8 weeks at a charity that I will have to pay for ( not much so not bothered about that). I am having supposed group CBt atm and to it is not CBT at all.

I was involved in a road accident saw a psychologist. Commenced treatment which initially made things worse. So partly funded by my insurance. Once the sessions finished with the insurance company I started again and self funded. When I self-funded it was much better as I was able to work on the issues that i needed to rather on the car accident.

Thank you everyone for your support and advice, I have to say your posts and support really did make me cry to know that you replied. Thankyou.

Been at work today and struggled as i didn't sleep last night at ALL :( sorry I didn't reply sooner

Got my kids up at 7 for their breakfast and busses, tossed and turned all night and so desperatley wanted to take the day off work.

I rang my GP and wasn't able to get an appointment if it wasn't urgent for almost 2 weeks, managed to get the 27th so grateful for that and i made a point of saying please dont just give me a 5 minute appointment (i dont know if they do ever but want to feel ok when i go that i have time)

Slightly concerned about medication as im on a waiting list for a hysterectomy that should be around November sometime, and really panicking now that that will be delayed if i go to my gp and explain my feelings and how low I am.?

I am lucky though at the time I didn't care and to a certain extent I still don't care. They took my blood and found no paracetamol in it so they said I won't have any liver damage. The cyclizine is only a 5 day course but I'm finding it hard to stick taking the tablets 3 times daily because they make me so drowsy. It'll probably take me about 8 days to finish the course.

I wish I could pay for the counselling but I can't. I have been receiving help from SARC but they are not trained professionals and are not able to go into details as the defence will suggest they have been putting words in my mouth.

I've been trying to work up the courage to go to my local Mind center (already contacted them via email) but right now it's just not happening :(
