Support for people with Depression

I'd suggest that as you're officially depressed, and they're using it "against" you, that maybe the label can be used to work for you, and you can use it to try to get a mental health advocate; someone to yell at the GP and system for you, and help you navigate the maze?0

The silly thing is, when I had a CPN and counselling, neither they, or the DWP Medical GP, thought I was depressed, but severely traumatised and anxious, so neither 'side' agree with each other anyway, so neither 'side' see a way forward as neither agree with each others diagnosis, so I have to suffer with the physical troubles as they think it's all in my mind0

Oh yes, once you have been diagnosed with a mental health problem, then this gives health professionals & others license to put any other issues down to mental health.
ie. once you have been diagnosed with depression, everything else you may have problems with is due to the depression & the way your feeling. It is highly frustrating and very annoying when it happens.0 -
As I have sadly found 'the devil'...:(
I have problems with alot of foods and can get in quite alot of pain from it and I wake up most nights choking (flatmate can confirm to any GP that deosn't believe me).
All I wanted was some help trying to find a way forward, whether it be tests and/or help with what foods I should avoid etc, but all I get told is to 'eat sensibly' and be asked 'you suffer from depression, yes?'. I have eaten sensibly for a long time and I am now worried for the first time it may be something serious, but the GP's don't want to know. I am also incredibly tired and a jaunt into town finishes my day when I get home and when I don't go out, I have no energy, not even enough to come on here for very long. I'm 34 next month and I feel 84!0 -
:grouphug:Evening everyone. Hugs to all that need them. Im going to try and get an early night. got to love the freaky dreams on AD's

How annoying - had an early GP appointment and once again, everything is down to 'depression' as opposed to anything physical.
Short of losing my temper with a GP, how on earth does anyone make a GP listen, before it's too late
Is it possible for you to see another gp?there are several at my practise but i know everywhere is not the same.If not maybe you could try speaking more forcefully to your gp,not losing your temper but making it clear you think your health problems are NOT down to depression and maybe asking if you could have some tests.0 -
Hello everyone, wishing you all well. I have been feeling quite down since the weekend and also extremely exhausted as we had a major family crisis. Perversly it has hopefully averted an even greater crisis further along the line, so that at least is a positive outcome.
I managed to have a lovely walk round the park today and saw a huge terrapin basking on a coots nest and also the most tiny baby coot climbing up from the lake into it's nest so that cheered me up a bit.
The Devil made me to it. I am on a antipychotic and mood stabilizer which both cause weight gain but I have still managed to loose nearly two stone now by doing lots of walking, keeping a food diary, having slightly smaller portions and increasing my fruit and veg. It is harder but it's still possible.
Take Care everyone.:)Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.

I've seen just about all of them down the years. We can see any GP we choose as we are registered to the practice not a GP. The only one that listened to me and took time with me is now on maternity leave.
This is my issue, I can't find the inbetween of staying calm and getting aggitated, so I find it best to walk away. I'll try again when i'm calmer with my GP surgery.
How are you anyway?0 -

The ADs I'm on at the moment ain't working tbh, so they are not worth battling the weight gain. I suppose if I was feeling better on them, it'd be worth it.
Was supposed to go to Mind today, but didn't feel up to it so I cancelled. Lately I feel as if I've been up & down like a yo yo & my anxiety has been really bad especially when I first wake up. Haven't been sleeping to well either. Crickey, I just wish these feelings would go away, seems my life is being eaten into by mental health problems0 -

My daughter found the book Anxiety For Dummies very helpful. I got it from the library. I always found my anxiety was worse in the mornings but it is now rare. Believe me things can get better!:)Here dead we lie because we did not choose
