Back in the 70s I was a school exchange trip in France, the ones where you stay with a family and then the child of the family comes to stay with you. On our first trip out with all the British kids we all opened our packed lunches from our French families. I had ham in a baguette and was I glad when I saw what most of the others had? Buttered baguettes with bars of chocolate in or just sprinkled with sugar. Now I never knew if that was a French thing or a reflection on what the French thought of our diet!!!0

It's a French thing (certainly the chocolate in a baguette).Children will often have this as their 'goûter' -after school snack.I don't know whether it's still done.0 -
