A rounded teaspoon of cocoa added to a bog standard custard mix works too.
Add dry ingredients and mix, make a paste with a small amount of milk, add remaining milk... and well, you all know the drill.

am trying to put together a black forest trifle out of store cupboard ingredients, never made chocolate custard before but would this work? (in fact never made custard full stop!)
1 tin ready made custard, couple of spoonfuls cocoa (til it tastes chocolately), bring to the boil, add some gelatin and leave to set?
thanks in advance for your answers, donna x0 -
