so it wouldn't be sloppy? do you think I don't need to? cos I won;t bother (feeling lazy today Penelope Penguin!)
I'm not a fan of custard, and can't abide trife, so maybe I'm not the best person to ask
But I've never known of anyone thickening custard with gelatine - I thought that was what the cornfour was for
Give it a try and let us know how you get on :T:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
I'd try making it with custard powder and cocoa powder rather than out of a tin of ready made. You'll get a better result. Cornflour to thicken....:footie:

Make the custard as usual, but blend the Cocoa with a little milk first before you add it to the custard mix; just so that it blend in properly.
Cocoa needs to be cooked thouroughly or it tastes "raw".
Why not make up the Cocoa first with the milk and then make the custard with that? i.e. add the blended custard to the cocoa and reheat to thicken.
I always make custard (and any other sauce made with cornflour) in the microwave; very quick and easy and doesn't "catch" on the base of the pan.0 -
thank you for all your tips esp how to make custard!
we rarely eat custard I have no idea where the tin came from or how long its been there, i poured it out, tipped drinking choc in and whisked until it was really chocolately, I used 1/2 pack of dr oetker's gelatin (again cannot remember why i bought this either!) dissolved in small amount (about 3tbsp) boiling water, poured into choc custard mix, whisked really well, poured over my choc sponge and blackcurrant jelly, topped with cherry pie filling (another can that i can't remember buying), the choc custard has set beautifully, am about to whisk up cream and top with chocolate sprinkles (would use flake but purpose is to use up all the 1/2 used/forgotten items in cupboards). it looks and smells delicious! roll on tea time...black forest trifle...yum!0 -
I made some on thursdday for the first time. Two tablespoons custard powder, 75g cocoa, 2 tbs sugar pint milk, make in the normal way.
It was sublime!!I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
I wouldn't add cocoa, but I have done it with a couple of squares of very dark choc into hot custard before and that was delish :drool:I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair0 -
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
