Chocolate custard and chocolate icing?

Can you spot the theme? lol
Just wondering if any of you lovely people had a recipe for a scrummy chocolate custard (like what you used to get at school dinners) and a tasty choc icing (hm)
Thanks everyone.

My MIL used chocolate custard with blancmange mix - just pour and eat before it sets!!! My husband raved about his mum's chocolate custard - eventually after years of trying white sauce with cocoa combinations I finally asked his mum and found she used Blacmange!!!

    Hi pauleyc

This is a chocolate fudge icing that I make, it's very very chocolatey. :D

    6 oz icing sugar
    2 oz cocoa powder

    -sift into a bowl

    3 oz butter
    4 oz castor sugar
    4 tablespoons of water

    - disolve in a pan and bring just to the boil before adding to the icing sugar and cocoa powder mixture. Stir well to remove any lumps, then pour/spread onto the cake. Decorate with flake pieces, nuts or whatever you have to hand.

There are more recipes on these threads:

This thread should help with the custard:

I made some eclairs with chocolate icing for a friend's party on monday-I just mixed a couple of teaspoons of cocoa powder with a little hot water then added it to icing sugar and stirred it until it was smooth.
  • I should think that a combination of cocoa, icing sugar, butter and/or water would do you a good icing. Keep testing it when mixing until it tastes right.:D

As for custard - I'd make up a packet of normal custard & add cocoa powder, or if you really like making custard from scratch (), then you could make traditional custard with eggs, vanilla, milk etc & lob a bit of cocoa or drinking chocolate in there & that should do the job.
  • I want to mak some chocolate custard. I'm just using Birds:o. Do I just melt some good quality choc and then stir in? Wont it go lumpy?
I did read about stirring in some mascarpone aswell.

I've made this before by first heating the custard, then grating chocolate into it and stirring until it's all melted in and tastes as chocolatey as you want.

  • seconding add cocoa powder, i mix it in initially at the start when you mix your powder and milk together and then i can always add a little more if it's not chocolatey enough
