Hmm, now that we've offically got "deflation", there's still no sign of those scumbags in NIE reducing their prices to an honest level.

So what do you think is an "honest" level?

Less than 150% of the tariff this time last year which is what we're paying now! ;)

NIE always plead special circumstances and worm their way around doing what the companies in the rest of UK do and that have to compete for business.
  • Our bill was over £300 as well this quarter! Couldn't believe it! Only a few years ago it was £150.

We have had to get a prepay meter fitted, we can't afford silly bills like that again, we are still paying it off:confused:

  • My bill was £92... and that is based on meter readings in February and May!

I've been working on reducing my electricity bill since last year. It looks like putting in a solar panel for water heating last summer was a good move long-term - until then the shower was an electric one, obviously used a lot of electric for hearing the water! I'll not need to put the immersion heater on or boil a kettle to wash dishes (by hand) all summer. Admittedly there was a (considerable) cost, but I reckon that the benefits are worth it.

Plus I got a Remoska cooker in January (based on MSE postings about it), the main oven hasn't been on since, and I can make great wheaten bread in it...

I use the tumble dryer only in extreme emergency - if anything can be dried on the clothes-horse in the spare room it is! But I'm still running 2 fridge freezers, the next plan is to get rid of one of these.

We got it in at the start of the week and were saving money already, we averaged £2-£2.30 recently per day, last few days have all been well under this.

Theres only 2 of us in this house and we spend all our time in 1 room (living room) with maybe one laptop charger plugged in, a lamp and tv at very most! Our last bill was just under £500 I near died! phoned NIE told them this wasnt possible - basically lady over phone made out I was stupid and that in the winter months your bills go up - I said I understood that but had paid my winter £500 bill just a a matter of weeks before that - she then made out Im a lier as "the meter doesnt lie"
Life is what you make it.
