Our house is quite large but we turn lights off etc when leaving the room and as i said there is only 3 of us here.
The bill for the quarter was £888?.
I work from home as a childminder so am always in the house - and have 3 children of my own so we always have computers, tv's, wii etc on - 3 bedroom 2 reception bungalow and I use tumble dryer and dishwasher all the time. Just wondering if something running up your bill unecessarily ?? it seems extortionate.

I think you need to ask them to check your meter. I have a huge house and theres four of us at home all day - the olds having tvs etc on all day and half the night and ours is 200 a quarter

max5heads. Ours was £305 this time!!! The sooner the monopoly is smashed the better, these guys should not be allowed to continue to rip NI people off. We were told during a recent power failure that even though we pay our bill monthly by DD they are not obligated to provide us wth electricity, continously or intermittently. How can anyone as a cusomer reply to this when there is no competition? Has anyone else been told this by NIE? As with these companies they are quick to add increases due to wholesale prices, but not bring them down again when that falls

    Hi,

My Direct Debit review is due in August but due to recent price decreases I asked them to do an interim review.
Result is that my monthly bill has been reduced to £ 62 from £76/month. Not a lot but at least a start in the right direction!

Has anyone else noticed the so called 4% discount that 'monthly DD' are allowed - that is capped at £10 a quarter - WHY IS THIS LEGAL TO CLAIM YOU GET 4% - mine works out a 2.35% this quarter because of the extortionate rate...should there not be the usual 'get out cheap clause' stating "UP TO 4%" I have complained to them about this statement because I feel its misleading to the majority as they claim we can have up to £40 a year, but this is not acrued over a year therefore not 4%. If it was I could have had my full 4% last year, as in total it was under the yearly allowance.I have also spoke to the consumer council about this..... still awaiting reply from both. Does anyone else have any suggestions or ideas or am I just a voice in the wilderness of jargon????

I know I should have overestimated by meter reading 3 months ago to take advantage of the lower rate. £90 a quarter is a lot to me when I have been used to payng £60.

Lots of boo hooing in my house today - I'm used to paying under £60 per quarter too - my meter is always read as it's outside, and I am careful about not wasting electricity. My bill came today and it's £94.20. Boo bludy hooooooooo! What a leap in price - the previous bill was £56. What can I cut back on...urm...dishwasher, watch telly in the dark, do my nerding with the lights off (my bulbs are where possible low energy ones obtained for free thanks to this site), boil the kettle less often somehow:confused:

On the local news today they were wittering on that NIE pre-bought stocks of electricity at its peak, and so are now passing the charges on. They are under pressure to drop their prices now as the wholesale prices have also gone down. They had better be stockpiling as much as they can at the lower prices and then passing the drop on to us.

Nobody likes to feel like they are being ripped off but NIE don't give a sh*t.

and what's more they know they can shaft us because they are still a monopoly - and we can't change provider [yet!] about time Stormont 'wastrels' screwed them down. NIE totally psses me off.

If the gas supplier in ROI can now supply electricity why can't Phoenix Gas in NI?

Sorry I'll get my coat :rotfl:

Seriously though, are not Bord Gais and the ESB both government companies?
