I know dogs are very good at detecting hypos in a diabetic person, and some are actually trained as Diabetic Alert Dogs, but it's the first time I've heard of cats doing the same!

You're very fortunate to have 3 such beautiful and clever kitties :T :A

I very frequently count my three little blessings icon7.gif

Now I just have to work out how to get very timid new girl Skye into a carrier to go to the vets for the op she needs on her eye, without her thinking I've turned into a monster mummy

The answer may be chicken related I think. She has no fear when there is a nice bit of chicken on offer ;)
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

Dogs are often hypo trained because they can smell the change in your body - same with epilepsy :) - cats however don't react to sweet things the same way - I think from memory they can't taste "sweet" but obviously they realised something was amiss and all reacted at once...
My 2 furbabies were lifesavers too in their own way - when I had them as kittens I was at a very low point in my life - to this day I am convinced the only reason I got out of bed and dressed each day was because I had to look after the terrible twosome... Every low point in my life since they have been there with me. When I've been ill my normally antisocial girly has been right next to me and since falling pregnant she's rarely far from my side... totally unlike how she was even a year ago!
    Animals know... :)

My Cattle Dog wouldn't leave my older crossbreed only, kept sniffing at her head, finally a small lump came up there,, was a mast cell tumour, which have a a high degree of fatality but luckily it was caught very earlier cos of Obi sniffing it, he is a very special hound, we can always tell when something is wrong...

I'm fine thanks lowis, hope you had a good trip.

Judging by the volumn of long black cat hairs I find on my pillow every morning these days, it looks as if Yogi comes and checks on me during the night.

I know that they say you can't train a cat, but Yogi is the most observant cat I've ever come known, he only has to see something once and he has it sussed. If I tell him off for something he rarely does that thing again. When he has knots in his coat that he can't handle he lets me know he wants them sorted out, even though he HATES having them done

Sadly, I'm not so easy to train, as Skye found out when she wanted to know what would happen if she dropped some of her toys into the canal (some float, some don't). No matter how loudly she shouted "fetch"" at me, I wouldn't go into the water to get them. Still, who needs more than a couple of catnip mice and little balls with bells in them anyway

:T Thanks RR. I agree with suekjw - lovely to read stories like this. Just a thought, maybe the readers of Womans Own, Take a Break, blah, blah, would like to hear about it too.

The Plush Doormat, thank you so much for that suggestion. My cats and their story were letter of the week in Take a Break recently and we are getting paid! The little terrors are now counting up on their paws how many chickens their pay will buy them :D

  • What a fantastic story.

I thank my OH every day for convincing me to get cats- I suffer quite badly from anxiety and depression and my cats have made a massive impact on my mood. And when my OH was recovering from an op and was bed-ridden one of my cats refused to leave his side apart from eating and using his tray.

Cats often get bad press, people seem to think they are loners etc but I think you get back what you put out with cats. Shower them with love and affection and you get it back doubly so from a very loyal and grateful puss.
