Plus I enjoy my evenings, whether that is playing football or spending it with the missus. what I do in my spare time is up to me and it does determine whether i want to work nights or not. Out of all the people I know I could probably count on one hand the amount of people who work night shift or until 12 at night, so it is a relatively small percentage.

You're just not getting it, are you?

No one cares how you like to spend your time, that is indeed your business...normally.

However, when our taxes are putting that "odd pint or two" in your hand or fuel in your car, then it does indeed stick in our collective craws when you state that you will not consider an option which could potentially remove that burden from us.

Fifty miles is nothing, better that than to stagnate and be unemployable for the future.

What's wrong with moving in order to take up a job?

When I was working out my notice at the end of my last job, I applied to work in Afghanistan and even had a telephone interview. Had they invited me to come and work with them, I would have gone.

I did restrict myself a little: the same organisation in Afghanistan later advertised an unpaid internship, and I decided not to apply (although I did consider it). And I refused to apply for anything in Iraq, since I don't think I could perform well under the conditions of constant danger there. Other than that, if the right job for you appears on the other side of the world, it makes sense to go out and get it.

I think everyone really is taking this out of hand.
The OP IS looking for a job....Not like he is sitting on his backside not doing anything even if he is limiting himself for disappointment.

    Peacocks / M&s / Littlewoods / Woolworths / clarkes...

They all was advertising for new employees,Peacocks / Woolworths, even opened new shop fronts And after 3 months of open vancanies, Collecting CV'S, and hiring people, they was all sacked due to the Recession.
So all those that ended up hire then got fired, most of them was from J/C, REED, and unemployment Agency.

So why everyone is saying, move, look further, spread your self more around.....Is beyond me....?

So say the OP does up and move sticks, Gets a job, after 3 months gets sacked, ends up homeless, with people who he dont know and cant help, Then what would everyone say then?

Everyone is suffering a recession right now, so does any of us have the right to tell the umployed, to stop being a "Professional Bum"?

    Become debt free.
    Beat Depression.
    Be happy & healthy

  • I agree that JSA should be stopped, a friend of mine said and I don't know if this is true, but to prove that you are looking for a job you only have to show the dole office 2 interview addresses per week.

You should be out every day 9am until 5pm looking for work, not sitting about.

Yeap that's right.....I have had to promise to look on the internet once a week for a job, to contact a company once a week and to apply for a job once a week

Don't have to name companies or provide any proof of my actions - so long as I've written it down in my job search diary they take it as gospel that that is what I've done.....madness.

in actual fact the way you prove that you have been looking for work is a farce and you could easily make it up. Eventually you will probably get found out. I have filled my booklet they gave me and everytime I go they say to me " you are not logging down your internet job search" - I say to them that I am not going to log down everytime I look for work on a website as it would be quite easy to fill the book up as I check everyday!
i prefer to fill the book up with what I have applied for, that way it looks better if you have a book full of jobs applied for rather than just saying you looked.

I have my 13 week interview coming up and in the letter it states that I have to bring proof that I have been looking. I have proof, I have kept emails, rejection letters etc etc. Some people have probably made up the fact that they have been looking for work and when it comes to proving it they will probably get away with it. That makes me angry.
  • oh yes they tell me that they look for the claimant to have done 6 things in the two week period. So you could just put down searched internet 6 times and that would suffice. Its ridiculous.
  • Just an update to say that I finally have an interview on monday!

Now the nerves have kicked in!!

I find it very hard to to understand the attacks by some posters on this thread. I am on JSA and have been since 1st November 2008 because of redundancy and many of us did not choose to take redundancy as the companies we worked for went into administration. This is the last thing you need when almost sixty.
Many of us would like to work but some are not capable of working unsocial hours, standing in a store all day helping customers or just dealing with customers, doing labour intensive work etc
I have to be picky when looking for a job and doing temporary work is out of the question unless there is a fairly good chance of it leading to permanent work. Like the OP I was aplying for several or more jobs a week and adapting my CV for each application but still no response. Eventually I have decided to only apply to those jobs where the criteria fitted if well with my experience and qualificaions even at a much lower salary, but unfortuantely only 3 or 4 of jobs these crop up every week in our area, but by targetting and adapting my CV to their criteria I hope to get a job soon!
  • Im in the same unemployed situation, and also on JSA.Im applying for anything, like so many other people are.I applied for job as a local dustbinperson..over 200 applied.I did not get it because I did not have an NVQ in waste management. There are hundreds applying for every job,and jobs are now being downgraded,in wages..You just have to keep going, and take all advise offered. Its so hard I know.
