Apparently another way of counting Lent is 40 days from Ash wednesday to the start of Holy Week
it's funny how many people who aren't regularly religious acknowledge Lent and make efforts to give something up. It's obviously still got roots in our way of life. And so far it seems to be the one thing that hasn't been commercialised unlike Christmas and Easter

Mind you, they'd have a job emphasising the material aspects of self denial
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

This morning I handed in our 1 month notice on this flat to the estate agents. I don't know why but it has made the move feel so much more real - which I didn't feel on receiving the keys to the house. Maybe it's the increased sense of time ticking away.

Can you get separation anxiety for a building?
Still wish I could buy a TARDIS instead of a house!

Morning Kiwi - morning all. :)

Yep, ditto that .. cold and tired here, as well. Even my morning drink of lemon juice in hot water isn't cheering me up.

Had a busy day yesterday - having had the washing machine man tinkering with my demanding mistress for a couple of hours and replacing just about everything that it was possible to replace, she is still banging and clunking and throwing herself around the room. :( However, would she do it when he was here yesterday?? Would she heck as like. Not a hint of a bang, or a clunk, or even a little shimmy .. never mind a full blown leaping across the room like a washing machine with ants in its pants. *sigh* I guess we'll just have to live with it and make the wash loads a bit lighter.

While I was waiting for him to do his stuff, I put together a lovely chicken and mushroom quiche, which is now in the freezer waiting for my parents visit on Sunday .. and a fabulous chicken and sweetcorn pie, which we had for dinner last night. It was my first go at a proper plate pie - and it came out very well. There's enough left over for lunch today, as well. :T There's also enough chicken left over for another quiche, so I think I'll put it in the freezer so that it can await the next demand for same. Not a bad result, turning a £2.65 chicken into three meals!

Have to pop up to the Farm Shop after the school run today and pick up some more eggs .. and put a fiver's-worth of petrol into the car, in the hope that will carry us through until after the rent has been paid. :( I hate this time of the month - I get so stressed about whether the rent will go out okay and whether we'll have enough left over for food etc. I budget and cash flow to keep a close eye on things, but it doesn't stop me worrying. Hey ho.

So, other than the usual batch of cleaning (I am deeply in love with those microfibre cloths, by the way), I must get some stuff listed on Ebay, in the hope of recouping some of the savings I've just had to invest in creating the cash flow to get us through the month. Good old Ebay. :D

Hope all the poorly people are feeling better today - and big hugs go out to all who need them.

    B : porridge and prunes
    L : leftover chicken pie
    D : sausages and couscous
:hello: I'm very well, considering the state I'm in. :hello:

    Morning

Not a bad night and feeling much better with my throat and sickness.

WM on and DW emptied. OH has put Mr Muscle in the oven as it needs cleaning-should be ready to do in about 3hrs. Washed our sofa cushions last night and came up lovely. The skirting looks brilliant too, so am best pleased.

Have about 25 tops i want to list on ebay on friday as its 50% off listing fees, so am going to start uploading all to turbo lister today and tomorrow all done for friday. Have done very well on there the last 4 weeks, have made about £300....its starting to pick up.

Sitting here with DD awaiting the dreaded 11+ results from the post lady. DD's packed lunch done: marmite sarnie, HM biccie, apple, banana, raisins, yogurt and weak squash.

    Breakie:cereal/toast and juice
    Lunch:OH taking me out hopefully
    Dinner:Shepards Pie and carrots/cabbage

    Anyways, got to go.

Hugs to everyone. Thanks for the PM Smokey-will PM you later.

They can claim it back for you under the direct debit guarantee - I know where I work for gets it back within 24 hours and at no cost to yourself. If they start being funny - change banks!

Clear blue sky here, thick frost but hopefully should be ok for washing.
DS has piano lesson this morning, then off to stay with home ed friend in Suffolk - anyone know what the weather is like up there? He lives in a fairly remote village & I don't want to get stuck in snowdrifts!!!

    Morning Everyone

It's freezing here at work. It's too cold to think about even doing anything, but I must!

My leg's still a bit sore from the half marathon - Funky Fairy thanks for the sponorship, the cheque arrived yesterday. Nearly £300 pound raised between me and my friend. We're arranging a big cheque hand over with a photo call.

I'm hungry, must start thinking about having some brekkie, and stop playing the MSE game!!!

    Hope everyone's ok

Kiwi I'm keeping everything crossed that you hear some good news today.

PP it's nice to hear you are feeling better.

Not much old style going on here as I have to take DD to school for her fancy dress day, pick my parents up from a village 9 miles away, drive them back to my home town for shopping this morning, hospital appointment for mum this afternoon, then drive them home and come home and cook tea.

DH is waiting for the new mattress to be delivered and will pick DD up from school, there are new lightbulbs waiting to be fitted, washing to do etc, will any of it be done when I get home?
