Morning All & :grouphug:to everyone whether you need them or not:D

For Lent I am giving up........arrrggghhhhh...........you have no idea how much it pains me to say this............c.........ch..........chocolate:eek::eek::eek: Actually I haven't had any since Friday which must already be my personal best! I need to knock off a few pounds plus I am far to reliant on it as a pick me up, so time to break the choccy habit. OH MY GOD!!! What am I saying.........:eek::huh::undecided:shocked:

Anyway, Spud has slept through the last 2 nights (Yippee) ao am feeling vaguely human today.

Need to pop to tescosto get the Daily Mial for Spuds free baby dvd, then a quiet day at home, need to meal plan & write tonights shopping list, & have set myself the task of clearing out my bathroom cabinate as it is an embrassement! I have enough medicne to stock 2 chemists. Peeked in my best friends last week & she has 2 packets of pain killers, some plasters & a bottle of eye drops in hers! How she does it is beyond me:confused:

    B : Porridge
    L : Turkey Salad sandwiches & fruit
D : Humm.......Good point. What is for dinner??? Think I need inspriation!

    Have a good day everyone;)

I've finally found the answer to something that's been bugging me for a while. Why,if lent is 40 days does Easter Sunday always fall 47 days after lent? Not something that bothers everyone I know!Well I've done a bit of googling and found out that you don't count the Sundays because they commemorate the resurrection.Glad I've sorted that one out ;)

Anyway this lent we are going to think about people who have so little to eat that they don't have the luxury of being able to give up any food.I have a fantastic book called Hungry Planet. It is by some American journalists and shows families from around the world with the food they would eat in one week.It is a real eyeopener. The contrast between the haves and the have-nots is stark. The British family featured is definitely not OS!! and the American families seem to exist on convenience food whereas the family from Chad have almost nothing. It seems that the richer the country the more unhealthy the diet(apart from very poor countries).

A quiet day at home for me.Must bake some bread, get the potato, bacon and onion hotpot ready to start cooking at 4pm and make the boys' beds, and I'll probably be on here for most of the day :)

Thats really lovely & very christian. I once knew a family who every lent gave up all thier luxuries & except for mortgage & council tax, lived on the equlivent of benefits for the whole of Lent. This mean they only used to run the central heating for 2 hours a day, shared bath water, had basic meals, no trips out or to the cinema etc for the kids & walked to school instead of driving (aged between 7 & 11 at the time so old enough to understand & join in). They said it was not only good to give the money they saved to a charity but a really family affirming thing as they played games together instead of going out, read books together, went for walks & cheap picnics & learn how lucky they were into the bargain.

Any chance of that hot pot recipe? Sounds fab!

    Morning everyone

Yikes!! Blizzarding here and thick snow on the ground here in Wales. I was supposed to get my hair cut today, so will have to push my way through my fringe to ring hairdressers. I doubt if anyone will be there as it is too dangerous to go out. I haven`t seen so much snow for ages. It looks beautiful and the pine trees are gorgeous. The sky looks grey and full of it so lots more to come I think

I have some condensed soup and some chicken breast so will put something together in the SC

Its a curl up with a book day today as the house is clean. I`m ploughing my way through tightwad but it isn`t a book I can read in the evening as it makes me nod off. It`s good though. I have also got roots to watch

Careful all of you. If you`re going out put some spare jumpers in the car and a couple of drinks. This snow came all of a sudden

That's a real inspiration,I'm not sure what we're doing comes close! We're just going to be thinking about others less fortunate :o Maybe we should do something as well as just thinking!

I'll post the hotpot recipe on the recipe board thread later when I've got back from walking the kids to school ;)

No snow here, it's lovely at the moment. Clear sky, beautiful sunshine, washing blowing on the line - and it's absolutely freezing out there!!! I had to defrost my fingers when I came in from putting the washing out!

Busy day today, as a group from our church hold a service once a month in a local old people's home, then this evening its the children's club. Dinner will be turkey steaks, but not sure when we will all be in at the same time to eat it!

Have a good day, all of you!

    Morning all

Awwww all this snow and we've got none!!!

I'm giving up nothing for lent - I don't have a religious bone in my body and these things just pass us by, each to their own.

2 little ones today, will start doing some handprints to go on mothers day cards today, will be making some egg box daffodils tomorrow.

    Brekkie - Toast and cereal
    Lunch - Beans on toast
Dinner - Soup - curried chicken and veg

The sun was shining so brightly in the kitchen this morning it really did show up all the dirt - not that my house is dirty but you know what it's like......feel like taking the pressure hose to the whole house :o

Hope you all have a good one, hugs to the poorly ones.

    :)

I read this on the site somewhere this morning. Apparently you get Sundays off so its 40 Monday to Saturdays that you have to give up for & thats why it take the extra days.

Very educational site this, i shall end up less broke & far more knowledgable !

Morning all! Not had time to catch up on all of yesterday's thread yet, but haven't managed to post for a few days so just wanted to say hello and to send best wishes to everyone who's ill or unhappy.

P-P Glad to hear you are feeling a bit less awful today! try to get loads of rest (yes i know, boring isn't it!) (((HUG))) Oh and I hope your DD gets the school she wanted!

Tootles Hope you too are continuing to feel a bit better and that yeterday's walk didn't wear you out. Do listen to your body, and rest when it's telling you to - we all get so used to pushing on and doing things when we feel ill, and it's not always wise. Rest as much as you can for a while - I know this might be difficult depending on how much your DH is able to do things instead of you!

Elona - Glad your ankle is starting to feel better! and

Scuzz sorry that your hamstring doesn't! You did so well to finish the half-marathon!

Regarding Lent, I suppose I should really give up chocolate - not sure if i can do it though! It would be excellent self-discipline (and good for the waistline) but it might make me very ratty - just have to eat lots of high GI foods or something, starting with porridge this morning!

I said a little while ago that my DH would have to retire early for health reasons. Our GP has been on holiday, but he was able to see her yesterday and she's given him a med cert for a year - she said if his work haven't managed to retire him by then (hopefully that's unlikely), to go and see her again and she'll give him one for a further year - in the meantime she says the med cert should prompt them to write to her and she will tell them that he's not fit to continue working. He was a bit disappointed to stop work as he'd hoped to manage another couple of years, but things have been getting too much for him. The doc said she was amazed he'd managed to keep going so long! Anyway, we went out for lunch to celebrate the start of his new life. We felt we should really be throwing a party, or at least hang out some bunting! It'll take him a while to get his head round the idea of not going back to work though.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Morning all and Happy Spring :D (and St David's Day :))

Yes - it's spring according to the Met Office (I always thought 1st day of spring was about the 23rd March )

So - it's a lovely day here in Lanky-shur. No snow or wind, clear blue skies......bit parky, but hey, still a cheery, sunny day :D

Both boys tried a bed-shuffle again last night. About 1.20 I was traipsing back to their rooms with them ,listening to DS1 creep back to our room whilst I got DS2 settled. He's not worked out that I have flippin' brilliant hearing, cos Mr Tm is as deaf as a post (when it suits him ;)) and sleeps hard. Hopefully they will have sussed it's not worth getting up soon!

Today I WILL get the windows cleaned. Then sun is shining through the dining room windows and they have that horrible film on them (ok, it's a few weeks since I did them :o) I'll ring my friend and we can chat as I work. WM needs emptying and refilling - beds need changing too.

When DS2 goes to pre-school this afternoon, I'm going to practise my crocheting again - was dreaming about it last night :rotfl: I was reading some patterns I have last night and they are american so I'll need to re-write them with the english stitch names :( It would be too confusing to try and remember their double is our half-treble (or whatever:))

B: proordge with sultanas and prunes
    L: HM soup and toast
D: Chicken and veg curries (separate) with rice and naan. Apple cobbler and custard (the 2 go well together, don't ya think :rotfl:)

As for lent - it's booze and chocolate for me. Booze - not a problem as I drink v. little but chocs - that may be a strain :D:D

Ok - off for shower and get on with the day. (((hugs))) to the sickly peeps.

    morning everyone.

It's a lovely sunny day here too. I think i will just have a quiet day. I want to try and get on the exercise bike as the dr recomended me taking some exercise. Then i'll want to have a bath/wash my hair.

I had a mad tidy up yesterday before my friend arrived, so i think i can get away with doing very little.

I spent a while yesterday on the pampers website as they have a pregnancy calendar. I'm now feeling bad because my baby is the size of a peanut, so there is no way i can blame my belly on that. It must have decided to just give up holding itself in on its own account. (we've nicknamed the baby pud, short for yorkshire pudding, as DH likes bumps to be given regional names, e.g. hamish the bump for his scottish cousin)

I can't really give much up for lent as i've already completely abandoned the booze, and i am trying not to eat chocolate (due to sister having a creme egg addiction when pregnant and ending up being shaped like one). I suppose i do want to try to be more positive. I'm thinking of writing a list of things that make me feel better, and then trying to work my way through it, e.g. see family, phone friend. Then i suppose there may be some benefit for someone else.

We've been invited to the seaside by DH's parents for Easter weekend, which is the same place we went for our honeymoon. It should be really nice as we won't have seen them since the beginning of December, and i should have had a scan by then.

Have a nice day everyone. Hope poorly people soon feel a bit better.

    Michelle, x
