The price of fish and chips are crazy now. Never mind what is happening with the portion sizes - they've completely shrunk.
Not in Smyth's. I sometimes get Fish Bites and chips and the box is overflowing

What on earth are potato scallops?
Potato scallops originate from England (or at least in the north of England) and are also common in fish and chip shops there. This variant is normally a thick slice of potato, dipped in batter and fried, with no additional flavouring added except salt.

    According to wikipedia

Cod and chips in Square One in Dromara (where?) for £4.99. We went last night and had two mains, two kids meals including ice cream and a round of drinks for £20. Also, the Mourne seafood bar in Dundrum has Cod and chips for £5.95 during the day. Better value than a chippie any day I think.

Mission accomplished, I've been and got myself a chip from the chippy. Actually I ordered for cod and chips as I've thought of hardly anything else since mentioned on this thread and cod was on the menu. The price for cod and chips was £5.00, or it would have been had they had any cod. They only had whiting. Therefore I changed my order and had chicken curry and chips. That was £4.00, and a 500ml bottle of orange Fanta another 90p. It were lovely, and a massive portion into the bargain.

The price of a chip where I went:
    small: £1.60
    large: £2.40
    family: £3.50

In Gt Yarmouth you can get really good quality chips from as little as 70p.

My local chippy does a big portion for £1.10

One thing that annoys me is re-fried chips. There is a place at the roundabout at the end of Bloomfield Road does that and its just like eating grease.

That would be Friar Tucks and you're right...it's minging!

My OH brought home a fish supper and a pastie supper from the chippie at the Markets (is it called the George?) and they were really, really good. Chips were particularly lovely.

If you want none greasy chips, Rosie's Chippy up the Gilnahirk road is the place. Very dry and the chicken nuggets are yummy. Good big bag of chips aswell.

Ewww Friar Tuck's. They started up in Newry - and still have a number of branches around here. I can't understand why anyone would go to them twice. The one and only time I got something from them was five years ago - a cold and congealed blob of potato sold as chips. Boke!
