Snowy, if you think chips seem too dear, fish willobviously be out of the question, I would suggest you buy eel.

A revolting price for a revolting dish.
  • £1.60 in Gilford and Lurgan from Mr. Chips. or £1.30 for a small chip.

I think its stranger when you go to england and ask for a chip and they say just the one!! hee hee

  • When I was young (well I still am) but I'm talking about when I was a child of the 80s - the chip shop was almost thought of as the poor man's supper. Some local chippies did deals early in the week like a fish supper for 75p and pastie supper for 50p on a Monday or Tuesday night.

Nowadays it costs a fortune to get fish and chips in. Its almost the same price to go to somewhere like Nandos.

Has anyone else noticed that it is near on impossible to get decent mushy peas in Belfast these days. Oh and while I'm at it if anyone knows of anywhere doing decent potato scallops, please do tell. I haven't had those in years. :rotfl:

You obviously speak from personal experience - thank you for your recommendation. I didn't know chip shops sold eel, maybe it's just a pretani dish.

Can we try and find the most expensive chip shop then name and shame them?
I've just checked 'FOR COD AND ULSTER' menu, prices are.....

    chip £1.95
    cod, chips and drink £5.75
    gravy chip £2.40

they also do potato scallops £2.00

I reckon they are probably the most expensive in East Belfast but obviously Stranmillis is worse!! (thats what you get for living in the posh part of town!!):p
