I was reading Honey28's thread about getting a Kenwood Chef and it reminded me that I have "inherited" my grandmother's absolutely pristine A901 model now that she's gone into a residential care home and doesn't use it any more.

I didn't realise you could get extra attachments, but a glance at ebay has revealed all sorts of exciting and possibly wonderful things. Then again, they're possibly things that will just clutter up my cupboards.

Has anyone got any recommendations? I rather fancied the grater/slicer thing, as I make dauphinoise potatoes and grate cheese like it's going out of fashion, but you lose the will to live if you want to do it in bulk by hand. Anyone tried it? And is there a difference between the fast and the slow grater (yes, I know, one's slow, one's fast) - apart from that I mean!

I suppose it was the 'seventies, after all!) so the first thing I'll be buying from ebay is an instruction booklet.

Anyway, I know I can rely on you all - any hints and tips gratefully received.

I don't use my grater, slicing attachments very often as it's too much faff getting them out of the cupboard.

I find I use the mincer, the blender, whisk and k beater the most.

I did get out the butter maker after reading posts on here but it stayed on the worktop for days before getting put back into the cupboard :)

If you like fresh coffee, then the grinder could be good for you - I love that smell of freshly ground coffee. Disappointingly though, the taste never matches up to that wonderful aroma.

Before you buy an instruction booklet though, check the appliance manuals thread on this board - there may be something on there. ;)

My marvellous hubby has bought me a kenwood chef for my 30th birthday. I am so excited! Have wanted one for ages and it was a complete surprise that I was delighted with.

But now to choose the attachments, can you advise what you have found useful?

    Many Thanks

Lol my hubby bought me a KC for Christmas and I was thrilled too... im sure most women would be horrified!

I love the mincer, makes great sausages! I also like the food processor attachment, oh and the pasta maker makes brilliant macaroni!

But the best thing of all is the good old K beater for making butter. This is something you must try. I have not bought butter or marg since!

I use my Kenwood all the time, but have a Magimix food processor as well - I have only acquired one attachment, the potato peeler!!! We grow our own potatoes and usually by this time of year I am down to the little ones, and it makes my hands hurt to peel enough for the five of us....so I invested in the peeler drum - makes one hell of a racket when it's running though!

    Regards

I have the potato peeler and slicer. Will the slicer become redundant if I get the processer attachement?

    I love my chef!!

Most used attachments in order of most used first
    processor
    liquidiser
    grinder (whole spices)
    citrus juicer
    mincer
    sausage attachment
pasta maker (not used yet as I am finishing off the dried stuff)

My first chef lasted 20+ years. I since had a breadmaker etc but yearned for another chef. I gave my breadmaker, processor, electric juicer to my DD and bought a new chef 3 months ago. It saves so much room in my kitchen. All these attachments are worth having.

We got ours as a wedding present and it is FAB! I use it almost every day :T

To be honest we cope fine with the whisk, dough hook, k beater and liquidiser it came with - the only other attachment I would consider is the food mill, but only because I just broke my Bosch coffee grinder :(

I would consider the food processor attachment but I already have a Bosch one so until that breaks - hopefully a long way off! - I won't be getting it. It also looks quite small.

    Have fun!

    Hi npsmama,

We have an older thread on this subject so I have merged your thread with it as it helps other Old Style readers to find all the suggestions in one thread. As always posts are listed in date order, so you'll need to read from the beginning to see all the replies.
