Well thats me on that forum all night then lol!!

Bootman, as I've been looking at the Kenwoods, i've come across a few questions from people asking about the Kitchenaid one, and the advice given was, if you can get hold of an old kitchenaid, then go for it as they used to have metal gears and inners, but nowadays they have plastic inners and cant take the hammer that a Kenwood can.

Thanks Leonie for the advice. I'm just starting to do lots of home made cooking and thought I might treat myself for Christmas! Will do a bit more research first I think.

PS has anyone used it for mashed potatoes, are they soft and fluffy?

Edited to add: Zziggi very kindly told me I could do mash with the K beater, I just wondered if anyone did it? I tried mashing mine with an ordinary mixer (like Delia does) but found the spuds to be lumpy

i tried this and it makes the mash lovely and fluffy with no lumps.

Well everyday im learning new things with my beloved KC (none beats the butter making yet though!) and now im turning my attention to the attachments. But which ones are really useful and which ones are just pointless. For instance they have a shredder and a food processor with shredding blades, so surely you could just buy the food processor?

Anyway im looking at getting the mincer with sausage attachment and the pasta maker.

What experience do you all have with the attachments and which ones can't you live without?
  • I have the mincer/sausage maker. It is excellent and very useful. The KC came with a liquidiser and I use that a lot. I would get the processor if my children were still at home. I am not sure about the pasta maker, I think that would end up in the back of my cupboard. My KC is fab

We have an older thread (or two)somewhere that discuss kenwood attachments, and as soon as I find one I shall merge this thread into it for you :)

Since posts are listed in date order you'll need to read from the beginning to catch up with us all :)

I'm would love a Kitchenaid mixer. Does anyone have one of these,if so what do they think of it?

I have one a stainless steal one.

I make butter, bread, cakes, all sorts in it.

I love it do not know how i managed with out it.

My advise it get one :j
  • I recently treated myself to one of these :jhttp://www.hobartcorp.com/hobartg5/pr/n50.nsf/home

Brilliant bit of kit, my "Pelican Slicer" and spare bowl have arrived from the USA this morning, so I'm slicing everything in the house now :D, the only problem is that is weighs the same as a sack of spuds! It looks like a Kitchen Aid because Hobart used to make KA's but sold out to Whirlpool and they aren't what they used to be but all the attachments fit either mixer. There is a good KA forum here :- http://forum.kitchenaid.com/forums/default.asp

You ought to remember that the number of watts is not really relevant because both the KA and KC use electronics to control the motor speed so they are always running sub optimally, my machine only uses 200 watts but has a proper "3 up a tree" gear change so the motor only runs at its designed speed, it will however rip your hand off if you did something stupid, I have had to alter all my bread recipes now because I now measure by chucking a bag of flour in and add water etc, no faffing with cups for me!
Go on you know it makes sense!:D

I was reading Honey28's thread about getting a Kenwood Chef and it reminded me that I have "inherited" my grandmother's absolutely pristine A901 model now that she's gone into a residential care home and doesn't use it any more.

I didn't realise you could get extra attachments, but a glance at ebay has revealed all sorts of exciting and possibly wonderful things. Then again, they're possibly things that will just clutter up my cupboards.

Has anyone got any recommendations? I rather fancied the grater/slicer thing, as I make dauphinoise potatoes and grate cheese like it's going out of fashion, but you lose the will to live if you want to do it in bulk by hand. Anyone tried it? And is there a difference between the fast and the slow grater (yes, I know, one's slow, one's fast) - apart from that I mean!

I've only ever used a Kenwood chef for whipping freezing cold evaporated milk to add to jelly to make mousse for Sunday lunch pudding (used to be my after Mass job on Sunday mornings when I was a kid - ah, the fresh, organic food of my childhood!!! I suppose it was the 'seventies, after all!) so the first thing I'll be buying from ebay is an instruction booklet.

Anyway, I know I can rely on you all - any hints and tips gratefully received.

Hiya, we have an older thread discissing the various kenwood attachments and so I have merged your post with it.

The usual rules apply - posts are listed in date order so you'll need to read from the beginning.

    Good luck :)
