  • Until recently my Mum had a chef. She's had it for approx 30 years (she got it just before I was born) Dad replaced it for her with the new Kenwood model, the pattisier

You can look at it HERE

I don't know if this is much help to you??

hi Zziggi, the best person to ask is apprentice tycoon, but when the machines refer to 700, 900 im sure this is the power of the motor. im sure ap will be back soon to help.

Oh dear! the shame of it, I don't know!!!:o !!!!

The thing is there was a thread where this was discussed and someone came along and said that there is a difference and some of the attachments for one didn't work on the other - i've just had a look and I can't see it anywhere. Maybe a BG has come across is and knows where it is? maybe? I'll carry on looking and see if it can be found

Putting that aside I want to show you my sausages - these were made this afternoon with my Chef mincer and sausage stuffer...pretty good I think you'll agree?

Crikey, what a big picture  they look quite scary

I searched 'chef' instead of 'kenwood chef ' and found what I think I was looking for here

I think it might have been me - the attachments for the 700 series don't fit the 900 series and vice versa. However as far as I can see there are only those two families of attachments. The best thing to do is to go onto the Kenwood website and look up the instruction booklet for your model, it will tell you what attachments you can fit. For example mine says the mincer that will fit is the 950 - that means I know it is a 900 family machine even though they don't make the model of my kenwood Chef anymore.

    Hope this helps
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

My wife grew up with a Kenwood Chef bought in the sixties and it still works. We bought one when we got married. It lasted 10 years and then the motor burnt out. I was throwing too much bread dough at it. After that I looked around for a dough mixer (make about 6-7 loaves of bread once a week). They are enormous and costly, so revisited Kenwoods and Kitchen Aids. In the end opted for one of the most recent Major models: KM005. This has a 1200W motor and is very quiet. Not as quiet as a Kitchen Aid because it's belt driven (Kitchen Aids have direct drive motors), but it is great. Yes the bowl is deep, but then I was looking for something to make sizeable batches of bread dough in and this will take an entire 1.5kg packet of flour, unlike the old Chef we had which would only do about a pound of dough at a time.

So I guess it depends on what you want.

If by vegetable peeler you are referring to the potato peeler attachment, don't do it. Never used it myself, but looking at it I can see it will be a real pain to clean. So which do you prefer, peeling potatoes or washing up awkward things?

Actually we never peel veg since we are fortunate enough to have a supply of reasonably priced and excellent quality organic veg; just give everything a good scrub.
  • Thought I'd add my two penneth-worth.

I wanted a BM but my mum got one and ended up getting rid of it. She said the loaves were too small and my brother/dad/sister would demolish a loaf in one sitting. Don't know what model she had. But I thought it would probably be a waste for me and I have limited worktop space.

I had a food processor that I didn't use and sold this, then bought a Kenwood Chef on Ebay with dough hooks, K beater and whisk. It cost me about £30 including postage. :)

I then bought a liquidiser attachment and a mincer. Not used the mincer too much (except for chutneys) but the liquidiser is brilliant!

I make a batch of bread every couple of weeks, making 3-4 at a time. I follow the recipe on the yeast packet but use oil instead of butter as I find I don't have to rub it in first. Apart from kneading until it's done ( I just check 'bounceablility' ) and not the 2 minutes it says in the manual it's fine.

It's got so many more uses that I'm waiting to discover. But for £30 plus about £10 for attachments it's more than paid for itself :D Can't imagine paying £300 for one though...

  • My mum won a kenwood chef in a competition 30-odd years ago and it's still going strong - she's had to have a replacement lid for the liquidiser but apart from that everything works tremendously well. It's VERY good for making sponge cakes. I missed it so much when I moved into my own place that I got a secondhand one! The liquidiser is better than any foodprocessor I've used, and much easier to clean - the bottom bit just unscrews so you don't have to go delving into corners with a brush to get it spotless. As previous posters said, getting a secondhand one is a very good idea - I can't imagine paying hundreds for a new one either.
