This has to be the most ludicrous thread I've seen on MSE. I just don't really understand the hatred towards Fred the Shred.
As far as I can tell he made serious errors in judgment, wasted some money, fired some people and through his errors (mainly expansion and risk - which he had won awards for in the past) nearly brought down a massive bank.
Since then his bank was saved by the government who then agreed (or failed to block) a ludicrous pension deal. He was asked to let them off the bad deal and refused.
His actions have hurt people, I understand that, but can we not forgive a person his mistakes. His intentions appear to me to have been to make money for his bank and subsequently money for his family.0 -

I missed his apology. What did he apologise for?

He apologised for "all of the distress that has been caused" but insisted RBS simply got caught out "when the music stopped".Favourite hobbies: Watersports. Relaxing in Coffee Shop. Investing in stocks.

The deal was a bad one for the government, not Fred's fault - he got the most he could for himself, fair enough.
I really think the wrong person is getting the blame, the government have a lot more to answer for than 1 banker.0
