it's probably the head isn't fussed about sport or something, and the PE teacher / rugby coach never gets reimbursed for the petrol he puts in, or the extra time he spends on these further away games. 1st class stamps are probably budgeted for ...
(if this is true, you should deffo moan, the rugby coach'll probably think you're a star!)

A lot of schools are scrapping sporting teams other than football due to the cost.I think the school will turn around and say they are scrapping the rugby team due to lack of funds.

I wonder if parents actually realise how very very little money is given to teachers in their budgets. My husband gets a budget that equates to just under £1 per pupil per year. From that he has to pay for departmental equipment, text books, paper, photocopying worksheets and handouts, folders, note books, DVDs, educational software, etc. What ends up happening is he personally pays for things like DVDs and DVD players, pens, pencils, books out of his own pocket. There is no way he could just absorb the cost of extra curricular activities and trips into his budget.

    And breathe.......

I've calmed down now and taken everyones comments on board. (Yes, even the ones I didn't agree with!)

Of course it's only £2 and I honestly don't mind paying it - I was just so annoyed at the thought of son paying it out of his lunch money because parents weren't asked beforehand. Plus the fact that we never get a lot of notice about things like this and the fact that the kids who get free meals don't get them on a day like today, when they should do.

My hormones are all over the place - I feel like a big barrel and can't move properly (due baby in 6 weeks), plus I've been holed up in my bedroom all day as the hall stairs and landing have been getting decorated, so I just let all the anger and stress out on this situation.

Son's not long come to me, his leg is a mess with a huge wide gash running from under his knee to his ankle - who can I sue? ;)

Was tempted to say that this rage wasn't like you Shell ;)

Hope sons leg isn't too bad!

I don't disagree with you about the fact the school has handled it extreemly poorly btw :) I'd be seriously miffed too if they repeatedly failed to inform me with enough time to make arrangements or causing my child to have to dip into their lunch money to pay so definitely not arguing that point with you :) The free meals thing I can't (and haven't) commented on cos I know nothing about how it does or should work :)

Hope you have managed to mop up the knee without too many tears - now go have a bar of galaxy! :D

His leg is really bad looking at it - that's boys for ya! :rotfl:

I think what it is, is the PE teacher is left to handle things regarding all the Rugby matches and/or tournaments and doesn't make a good job of organising them.

When the lads have a match after school, it's always on a Tuesday and we only get notice of it on a Monday. Also, those days, 9 times out of 10, the parents have to transport the kids which isn't easy when you have less than 24 hours notice and you work.

The money. I don't mind paying money towards something for school, but one thing that bugs me is not knowing why or what I'm paying for and I certainly don't like teachers asking the children for money. If school wants money and it doesn't come in with the child, ask the parents where it is, not the child!

It's like DDs school. They have charities week (it's a catholic school) once a year where all money raised goes to charity. But what charity?? I haven't a clue because they don't say so, so I hate having to fund that.

I'd love some chocolate, but it gives me awful heartburn, so I'll pass on that lol xx

Everything gives me heartburn at the moment :) everything other than glasses of milk...
I could kill for a lovely glass of rose right now but if I had one I'd be in agony and have to have half a bottle of gaviscon and it does somewhat put me off ;)

What did your son do to his leg? Maybe I should re-join St Johns and get my first aid quals back up to scratch :rotfl:

I don't have enough milk (only enough for kids cereal in the morning), I don't have gaviscon, I don't have rennies or anything, so I've got a packet of minty chewys with me instead :rotfl:

He hurt his leg at Rugby today - the big long gash is from someone's stud off their boot  x

    Hi,

Im not sure but didnt i read its illegal to charge fares for non PCV mini bus drivers, wouldnt of thought a school would get someone trained for PCV licence. So therefore isnt it true that they have to provide the service as voluntary.

hi looby in mose cases you would be right, but schools and charities can operate under the small bus permit scheme which allows them to charge running costs but not make a profit, this also gets them around staff not having d1 driving entitlement on there driving liscences as long as the bus is under 3.5tonnes.but it is definately worth checking that the school does have a small bus permit in place otherwise they will need a pcv

I think the argument could also be that it isn't a fare per se - but a contribution towards fuel cost. Have to admit that the small bus permit thingy is something I'd never thought about or know about so definitely an interesting point and something maybe everyone should check with their school if the children use the minibus for anything (charges totally apart).

Shell - DH is going back to Rugby which I am viewing somewhat suspiciously - I've seen his x-ray file and it's pretty impressive! I just know his luck will be that the week before I give birth he'll break something and then I'll have 2 of them to look after at home

And those studs can be vicious... especially if they are doing scrums (do they do those that young?). And I bet that will be sore today as they bruise up too - poor boy! (I spent a lot of sundays over the years on the side line at tournaments through St John - only 1 junior one though - I preferred the adult mens rugby ;) there was usually always some eye candy for me ;) hehehehe)
